Does anyone here think that George Lucas is a one-trick pony?

I'm just curious about how does the general public on OT feel about George Lucas as a filmmaker in general.  His other businesses aside (Lucasarts Games, ILM, etc.) I think he's gonna be known only as the creator of Star Wars, even though he also was the writer for the Indiana Jones films.  At least with other filmmakers, (Speilberg for example) they may have created an iconic character or movie,(E.T., Jurassiac Park) but they also have other films they have made during the course of their careers.

What do you guys think?

Yeah, that's all I know him for.

He showed he's lost his touch with the new three...

Do you realise what you're doing? You're going to make all the Star Wars nerds come at you with flaming sticks and waving their plastic lightsabers.

Should we trust a man known for wearing the same clothes day in day out to come up with new and exiting franchises? I think not.

I'm not trying to start a flame war, nor am I ragging on the Star Wars films.  I'm just wondering if anyone thinks if he's gonna be remembered as a filmmaker with a diverse filmography, or is he gonna be remembered only as the creator of the Stars Wars universe.

Why should he care? He's beyond rich right now because of StarWars and Lucasfilms.

Quite true, but I guarentee that when he made the first Star Wars film, he probably had no idea it would be as huge as it is today.

I think he's a great producer, but not really that good of a writer* or director

* I should elaborate on Lucas as a writer.  He's really good at writing plots, or general story outlines, but when it comes to connecting the dots he's not that good.  I guess you could say he's got great ideas but bad execution.

American Graffiti was good along with Ep IV but they are highly overated.  episode V and VI were much better.

Steven Spielberg is a much better director. He has made many great movies (E.T., Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Indiand Jones, Jaws, etc.).

They are.  He wrote the story, but I think most people might associate the Indiana Jones movies with Steven Speilberg, being he directed all three of them.

THX1138 and Graffiti were done before Star Wars.  Once the first film was made it seems like that averything else he's done before then was tossed out the window.  As far as LucasArts and ILM and THX...I stated in the very first post that those things were exempt from this.  I was asking about what he would he be remembered for as a Writer, director and producer.  Only for Star Wars, or for his othe films as well.
