U.S rap is too commercial? maybe you should listen to some of the non-commercial stuff. idk, just an idea...
Yes(Again because I'm British). Most of UK Rap is just rubbish, but there are a few gems, like in the USA. In the UK, Example is probably my favourite(Although he is pretty new)DeX2010
there are more than just a few gems in the US...

The USA has a huge population, because of this the proportion of 'gems' may be roughly the same but because the population is so much bigger it may appear that there is a greater number.[QUOTE="lazerface216"][QUOTE="DeX2010"]Yes(Again because I'm British). I'm talking about good rap. Lots of people can rap, but not a lot of people can be really good and excel at it.[QUOTE="lazerface216"][QUOTE="DeX2010"] The USA has a huge population, because of this the proportion of 'gems' may be roughly the same but because the population is so much bigger it may appear that there is a greater number.DeX2010

So I am assuming you understand multiple languages and have heard rap from all over the world. Rap/Hiphop may have originated in the US but that doesn't mean that it is confined there.[QUOTE="lazerface216"][QUOTE="DeX2010"] I'm talking about good rap. Wow, Akala is really good. But i usually listen to old U.S hip hop and some new, Immortal Technique, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye West & Tupac.

akala is a perfect example, the guy's a half way decent MC yet he's known as one of europe's best rappers.

the best maybe are from the US, however the majority of commercial crap hides them away[QUOTE="r4v1rsm"]take jay-z out of that list and I agree they are great artists :) Jay-z is just as good as all of the rappers he listedWow, Akala is really good. Guess I'm gonna' be a fool and ask for statistical data backing up that claim of yours, 'cos what you're saying doesn't make any sense to me, considering how much russian and eastern european rap is out there, no sense at all.

Lowkey is from the UK and he is the best MC making music right now, far better than anything coming out of the US. The US started Rap but they're slowly destroying it, Lupe Fiasco is doing his part in keeping it going though. There are a couple of others also, but right now Lowkey is the best rapper.
See this for proof.

The only time when I like rap, is when it goes very deep. Has a lot of meaning. But then you wouldn't be able to understand what they're saying since it's not english, so... yeah.
In my experience European rap is usually a lot more like other music than pure rap or hiphop. Which isn't bad don't get me wrong, I actually prefer that to all the gangsta and 'oh I'm such a victim and angry and aggressive and you should all fear me now' or the rather boring 'I can't sing so I'll talk my way through this' rap.
Though from what I heard French rap comes the closest to American rap, and even though their language doesn't lend itself for rap at all (imo) they are maybe the best at it.
[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]I don't really listen to rap. What irks me about this thread is the distinction between Europeans and UKians as the latter is a sub group of the former.SPBossbecause UK rap is in english and european rap is.. not?Sure it is. If many sing in English, then some of them will rap in English too, no?
