It really is amazing. They were larger than life and literally just vanished off the face of the earth after about a year of fame.

And this is precisely why I can't stand people who whine and complain about "artists" like Justin Bieber. He's gonna vanish off the face of the Earth too, just like all of the fad pop stars that came before him.
And I'm sure that the people who hate on these pop-culture fads absolutely realize that they ARE fads, and are going to die very quickly. To then complain about said pop stars is then less of a serious discussion about the devline of popular music, and more of a chance to say "I am obsessed with celebrities too, I just like to hate on them. Today it's Justin Bieber." Either way, the hate is just as much of a fad as the fame and love those "artists" receive. Either way, the people talking obsessively about those "artists" are usually the same sorts of people who buy people magazine in order to look for gossip on Tom Cruise. At that point, it doesn't really matter if you like him or hate him...it's already basically crossed over into celebrity obsession. Constantly talking about how that person is awful and is killing music is just as silly as buying all of his merchandise and spending every waking moment thinking about how you love him. It's still obsession over something which is completely and utterly insignificant, and is going to go out of style very soon. It's still just obsessing over fad celebrities.
If they're insignificant, then they're not worth talking about. Much like how absolutely no one is talking about Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, or the Jonas Brothers today. Soon they'll be gone and even the haters won't give a **** about them, so why bother getting so riled up? If you don't like them, just ignore them.
