They used to be nothing but build shows, like Monster Garage, American Chopper, and Junkyard Wars, but thankfully they changed their lineup and got rid of most (if not all) of that stuff.

But now they're starting to suck again. It seems like now, pretty much all they show during their primetime is Deadliest Catch, Mythbusters, Man vs Wild, and Dirty Jobs.

And have you ever seen their daytime weekend programming? It's like, Cash Cab, Ghost Shows, or some show about urban legends hosted by the hot chick from Species.

Sure, they're had some good specials recently. That show about the space program was pretty good. And Planet Earth would have been good if they didn't have Sigourney Weaver redo the narration. But I think it's seriously time to revamp the Discovery Channel. It's starting to get sort of stale again.

You talk as if Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, etc are bad shows.

And this applies for many TV networks we know of. Comedy Central, the History Channel, SpikeTV, MTV, etc.

Alien's SW? why did she redo the narration? Sir David Attenborough's narration was fine as is.

They're not bad shows. But it's like, Discovery Channel's formula seems to be this...release a bunch of new shows and see what sticks. Then take the three most popular shows, and show them ALL THE TIME.

I guess they figured that he was too English, and that Americans wouldn't be able to understand what he was saying.

did you lot have subtitles in Jurassic Park everytime his brother Richard came on? i can see why some Americans wouldn't be able to understand him, but Sigourney Weaver seems such a random choice. couldn't they have got morgon freeman to do it.

Maybe they just need new shows to run on the air. I think what they have is good, but it's just not enough.

Yup it sucks. Deadliest catch is on right. It's on for about 12 hours a day and it's the most annoying thing in the world. I don't want to learn about a boat and how bad the fish smell, I want to learn about anatomy, and geography, etc. They used to have that kind of stuff more often on there.
Oh and wtf is JFK doing on the discovery channel again? We get it, there's a controversy and the internet covers it so much better depending on where you go, now gtfo and teach me something useful. gawd.

The only television show I watch now is Mythbusters and that happens to be on Discovery Channel, so...*shrug*.

I agree about Deadliest Catch being atrocious though.

They need to get rid of deadliest catch. Its sooo boring now. Dirty jobs is interesting, I like that. I want them to show more shows like How its made, or more nature. They really need more nature and space in their programming. Technology too.

Yeah I agree. It just seems like they're trying too hard to be good. They're trying to think of all these new crazy shows that make people go "Coooool, something blowing up!!!" (ahhhemm, Smash Lab). I don't see what everyone likes about Deadliest Catch. I honestly find the show so boring now, and I mean sure it was interesting in the first five episodes but after that it's pretty much watching the same thing over and over again....Men cussing and new drama, same job...Oh no a wave goes overboard and a guy twists his leg and says f***. They're getting so unoriginal and you can tell they're trying to redo the whole channel with a new logo and slogan "The world is just awesome.". All they keep dong is throwing in reruns of Mythbusters and Deadliest Catch 90% of the time. You can tell they're more concerned about money than actual new interesting stuff. That's why the keep showing loads and loads of episodes of Myth and DC to get the money from all the whining people who love those shows.

Ultimately, I've switched over to the History Channel because the Discover Channel has started to suck. I agree.

I don't even think that they need to get rid of it. It's not a bad show, and I enjoy it every once in a while. Same with Dirty Jobs. It's just a problem when they show that stuff all the time.

I think they still have Wild Discovery, but I'm pretty sure it's only on Sunday morning when everyone is either still asleep, going to church, or doing last-minute housework before having to go back to work on Monday.

Anyway, at least some of their specials are still good. The recent NASA special was definitely more along the lines of what Discovery Channel needs to show more often.

Guess it's different were you are, 60% of the time bone detectives/forensive detectives is on. If that isn't on it's deadliest catch, mythbusters or how it's made.

If you want them to survive then that's what's doing it for you. I'm sure their other programing doesn't get much ratings.

The Discovery Channel seems to just have a few big specials each year, whereas the History Channel has some sort of special for something every couple weeks. It's great. A few weeks ago they had something about how the Neanderthals went extinct, before that they had someting documenting drugs used in the Hippie era, and recently they had something about how we went from chemistry to life. So yeah, Discovery only seems to have a few specials that they centralize all their effort on but they just have hardly any of them. "When We Left Earth" was good but it didn't seem like something they'd have on the Discovery Channel since it was more about history.

Yeah they are certainly better than a couple years ago but still not great. I would rather watch a blank screen than most of what is on TV nowadays. The I like Dirty Jobs though...its funny.
