Heh, I don't really notice it. Then again I don't watch much TV. Last comedy show I used to watch frequently was That 70's Show, and I can't recall if it had laughter tracks or not. It was pretty funny though!

Disney Channel is sooo annoying because they use it after every sentence, not that I admit to watching that channel. The show that used it the best was Scooby Doo.

Yeah, canned laughter on Disney Channel is terrible not only is it used after every two sentences but it is also annoying because the shows have no funny senteces at all.

By the way, I know that because my sister watches it. I am a big Disney fan but if they took Disney Channel and all its bad programs out of the air I would throw a party.

I think it helps ease the awkward silence between me and the tv when I don't laugh at a joke.

I'm pretty sure the only reason it's used is to avoid akward silences, and encourage the watcher to laugh. If a joke is lame I appreciate it because without it you have the chilling "I'm not amused response from everyone else." Though to be honest if something is funny enough it shouldn't have to rely on that technique.

I don't mind it. The Big Bang Theory uses it and it's a hilarious show so I'm usually laughing over the laughtrack anyway.

LOL the Flintstones was the worst for that. I was thinking about canned laughter last week as I've recently started watching M*A*S*H on the History channel. I was going to make a thread about it to but thought it wouldn't fly. Dang you for stealing my Idea, and with a Poll too. *shakes fist*

Funniest show I have ever seen was Arrested Development, and it didn't have laughtrack. It made for more plot development and humorous dialogue.

IMO it takes scenes that would be funny and makes them... "unfunny".

If AD had a laugh track, it would be one big continuous one. There's something funny happening in every scene.

But it would also uproot all the subtlety.

My favorite shows like Futurama/Aqua Teen don't have them, and I don't notice it on those that do except the Disney Channel.

If I were on the Disney Channel on one of their shows and said:

"My Uncle Wally is dying of cancer!" there would be a laugh track to it.

I rarely ever pay any attention to it. I've been watching Frasier since I was a kid, and that's got laugh tracks in it but I hardly ever notice. Most shows I watch don't even have it.

I thought I was the only one that liked that show. There was too much funny stuff in that. "Strong as A Rock (IRAQ) lol

Canned laughter is usually horrible, and is just a sign that the show really isn't funny at all. When they have to clue the viewers in on when they're supposed to laugh, that's generally a very bad sign. Having said that, I have seen some exceptions. There are a few truly funny comedies that use canned laughter. Seinfeld used it, M*A*S*H used it, and Fresh Prince of Bel Air used it. And all of those shows were (at least usually) genuinely funny. Still though, they were funny IN SPITE of the laugh track, not BECAUSE of it.

I just hate when there's something unfunny, and the laugh track takes up 5-10 seconds and no one's doing anything. I don't know anyone that does that. :|

Canned laughter is an annoying interruption that adds several seconds of filler every time. The only good show I've seen with it is Friends, and it was a good show DESPITE the fake audience.

Drake and Josh was great regardless of canned laughter after every sentence. I know what you mean, though. Eventually you just tune it out.

I don't hate it but I don't like it either. I think it's great when used sparingly and at the right time. Disney channel shows use them after every sentence and that's when it gets annoying.

Where's the "Has no effect" choice? I love Seinfeld, which has a laugh track, but I also love Arrested Development and other shows that don't. Both are funny for reasons other than the presence/lack of fake laughter.

I tend to tune it out.And at the risk of beating a dead horse,I'll go ahead and echo the statements about Disney Channel; there's a laugh track pretty much after every single sentence said,if not, after every single small action the characters might do.
