Does Disney even have legitimate competition in the fantasy cartoon market?

Disney has the CGI movies on lock, the Anime movies on lock, the fantasy cartoons on lock, the everything, on lock, they own Marvel, they have tons of studios, some you might not even have realized are owned my Disney, etc. WB doesn't do that anymore, I haven't heard of MGM for years, who's left? They pretty much own the fantasy side of things with cartoons and themes completely at the moment with no real competition the last decade. Who is even close?

Outside of Japan, the terms are dictated by Ghibli.

I also recall Dreamworksout grossed Pixar(as they put out at a 2 to 1 rate)

Sony also as a decently succesful CGI devision. WB has allot amazing 2D DC movies they release, and TV they produce.

On anime distrubution theiris a hole bunch of companies with larger anime catalogues(lke Funimation and Viz)

So what, does Disney own Pixar and Dreamworks (the other 2 companies that come to mind in these genres of movies)?

There are plenty of animated movies that do well that are not Disney. Most recently Madagascar 3.

Ok there's Dreamworks and??????? Dreamworks mostly does Cgi. NAd most of their company stays away from fantasy like cartoons. When you think Disney you think magical or fantasy. Lion King, Beauty and the UFC Knightbeast, Peter Pan. But think about this, where is the competition. You could argue CGI with dreamworks but not actual animation. Where can I find fatasy anime master pieces? Family cartoons with a message? Action movies that don't feature CGI? etc. etc. Even then, Dreamworks is the only competition to them CGI wise, but Disney also has Marvel as well. WB put out some direct to video, which most of the time do average. MGM is like gone. All the competition is pretty much gone. Memebr it was like Finding Nemo, Vs. Landbefore time, Vs. Lion King, Vs. Rugrats in Paris, Vs. An American Tail, Vs. Cinderella, Vs. Spirited Away, vs.etc. etc. The output is way to big to summarize. Now it's pretty much just Disney. With Dreamworks owning going against them in a small percentage.

Don Bluth used to routinely show Disney up, but he hasn't directed a movie since 2000. Some of his works: The Land Before Time (first only) An American Tail (first only) The Secret of NIMH Anastasia Titan AE All Dogs Go to Heaven (first only) Plus he did Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II, and Space Ace. Total dude in my book.

Yes he was great. On topic of that, what happened to Universal Studios? There's not real competition for Disney, Dreamworks is good but they don't have any output of quality AAA movies all the time like they did before, not that Disney is that much better in the field, but they have more fields to manage. Without competition, animated movies (including CGI) are getting stale or they have to make sequels, and in a lot of cases, the Sequels don't make sense (ICe age 3? I haven;t even seen the first 2 but based on general information the third one does not make sense. Heck wasn't the MELT DOWN, which was already pointless the second movie? Now what?

It's not just Disney with a big slice, 6 companies own 90% of all media in the country:

Dreamworks is about the only competition. Their movies have gotten better over the last decade minus a few I'd rather forget (I'm looking at your Shrek Ever After), but Disney is still the undisputed champion. Their movies win Oscars after all.

Yeah and Dreamworks doesn't have anywhere near the amount of studios that Disney does. Also if Dreamworks ever wants to rake in the amount of cash Disney does they would have to open a full on theme park, but because they don't really take their characters all that seriously (with a couple exceptions) it would be incredibly weird to have a theme park dedicated to characters like that.

Disney almost has like a monopolistic grip in that market. Dreamworks is the only close competition. Shrek and Madagascar being mega successful. I'm sure Disney would love to buy out Dreamworks but they wouldn't be allowed.

Shrek has appeared at the Universal Studios parks but that's about the only one I can think of. Most of the Dreamworks characters don't really stand out compared to Disney but Disney had a good head start since the first theme park has been around since the 50s.
