I think not. It seems like everywhere brags about their diversity, paricularly developed Europe and North America. But does it always do good and gets to it's full potential?

Let's see....Coming from The San Francisco Bay Area.

  • In High Schools, kids have a tendency to sort of hang out with their ethnic group, and brings about saying like "Asian Pride!" you hear a lot. Blacks and Mexicans kind of hanging around their own but mix frequently. Whites kind of hang out with each other but tend to mix with the others.
  • There are various Chinese supermarkets and surrounding stores and socializing areas with signs in Chinese. The same for Spanish speakers. It seems like you don't need to know a word of English to get a house, car insurance, health insurance, a car, a job, etc. It kind of encourages groups to hang out with their own kind and not care about integrating.
  • Television channels aimed at blacks, latinos, and asian...Such as Bet, AZN, Azteca America...Do we really need these?
  • though those are the only main things I've noticed around here...

Well, OP, most of things you mentioned actually seem to be the opposite of diversity.

Thus, I'm really not sure what you are getting at...

At any rate, I think that being exposed to various "groups" (for lack of a better word) of people reduces the degree to which people resort to stupid stereotypes, especically ones created by the fact that news inherently focuses on negative things, thus creating a negative perception of other cultures by default.

The world is getting smaller, get used to it. It's gonna be awesome when ethnicity isn't even a factor andpeople don't know what they are. probably gonna have to wait a couple thousand years though.

Well if my definition of diversity is right, I meant people in the same areas of different ethnicities living around each other. You hear that oh "Diversity makes peace, everyone's happy and accepts other cultures" and give you the idea of some utopia place because of it. But what I'm saying is it doesn't always make a place better as opposed to the place having one race, of all asians, blacks, whatever. Diversifying a place doesn't always whole solidly make a place better.

I doubt areas of 3rd word Africa and Asia will breed with other races though.

I'll agree with that. I don't support things such as hiring people just for diversity's sake though.

If a minority is equally qualified for a job with a majority, yes give it to the minority applicant. If a minority is not as qualified as a majority candidate, it doesn't make any sense giving them the job instead.

OH that pisses me off so much when I hear that and I'm asian too, but I don't go around bragging about how proud I am to be asian.

The OP said nothing about hiring people. As I said, I wasn't sure what exactly he was getting at. Hiring people on the basis of race is just plain absurd (except for maybe a movie part that necessitates it or something like that - a movie set in feudal China isn't going to have a bunch of European-looking people. That's just stupid.)

This reminded me of something I use to do when hanging out w/ my black friends.

I'm white, but hang out w/ a few black friends, and when hanging out with a group of black people you experience alot more off handed racism than you expect. It's often little stuff, and not blatent racism, but it's stuff you notice doesn't happen by yourself or with your white friends.

Anyway any time we would come across this type of subtle racism I would yell out "damn straight WHITE POWER (followed by another semi racist comment)", and watch the terror unfold. Most of the time due to my look they would never think of me actually being with the black group (mostly because I don't fit the white gangsta profile), and think I'm about to get my ass beat by a bunch of "thugs" (they aren't actually thugs but alot of these people think black ='s thug). Often it's hard to keep a straight face through the act and we walk away laughing our ass off and confusing the hell outta the closet racist, but it's still fun.

That's kinda lame. Imean, I'm proud of my heritage and all, but I don't go aroundyellingWhite Prideall day. There's notting wrong with being proud of your cultural background etc., but saying it all day just makes youlook like a retard.
