i mean, i know the cinematic effect is heightened by how aesthetically good a movie looks, but isn't dialogue, intellect, and a message that the movie portrays really what matters. Even the jokes are what's important in comedy movies. I know that it is nice to see a movie in higher definition, but is it the most important thing to you?

also, looking at movies that depend on HD (beowulf, transformers, etc..), you can say that the story in those movies is kind of an afterthought. I know that watching the images is pretty sweet, but to watch a great movie because of the story and what was said above is really a better overall experience for me. What about you guys?

I don't really like movies that are just eyecandy anyway so HD isn't very important to me. Games are another story though.

If a movie's going to impress me, it's going to be it's design and acting. Not it's graphics.

I don't mind it, but the content of a movie is more important than how it looks on my TV.

I saw the difference between HD and SD after seeing Spiderman 3 in bluray, it's very nice on the eyes but after a while that "wow" feeling goes away and you kind of forget about the HD part. Well, at least for me :|

Yea you can. Some people say they can't see the difference but you go to a video and appliances store and look at their highest price television set playing a movie you've seen before demonstrating it's capabilities, you'll see the difference. Even though I saw Paul Walker going down the highway in some pro-street car, I still couldn't believe it was the fast and the furious. It's there, but it's beyond want for me. If I ever got a highpriced set in my home it wouldn't say "HD." it'd say "status." :|

Sure HD looks nice but in the end it's not necessary. I have no problems at all watching normal DVD's.

when i saw spider man 3 on my ps3 it seemed to have quite a lot of noise...............as did other blu-ray discs. Maybe it's my tv.

people don't get better things for some bs status effect.. that's like saying you got a pizza from pappa johns instead of a frozen pizza for the "status". People get these things because they are better, more enjoyable and so on.

neither is color tv, ice cream, bikinis or a lot of other things. Even normal dvd's "aren't necessary."

I have never really watched a movie in HD before, so I am used to watching movies on a standard TV.

HD movies do nothing for me. I don't enjoy the movie more just because it's in HD.

Not for movies. I don't have HD, but when I get to watch sports in HD, I love it.

Sure, we could do without HD in the same way that we could do without colour in movies. I mean, colour doesn't really affect the dialogue, intellect or message in most cases. While we're at it, why not scale it back to primative sound systems. Out of all the people that have agreed with this statement so far, most of your are pretentious (a few of you are just major movie buffs). Aesthetics are what separates watching a movie from theatre. Theatre is pure script and acting, movies are mostly script and acting with some cool effects thrown in to make it more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

It only matters for me with movies like 300 or Beowulf or even Sin City that are all about making a visual impact. Even then though I won't go out of my way to watch it in HD.

Lately, the only positive aspect of movies are the crisp quality of the image, not the quality of the film itself. >.>

Still, watching explosions/animated scenes in 720p is something I'd drool over. :P

Let's al be honest here... I'll watch a movie and enjoy it a lot even if it's DVD quality, but if I have a chance to watch it in HD (I got HD channels on cable and the 360's HD drive) I'll do just that. Not because it actually improves the movie's quality, just because it's better looking and I like that. Our society is based a lot on aestetics, and no one can deny that. We all talk about the obesity epidemic, A OT of us go to gyms to look good, etc... well I like beautiful loking movies more, although HD won't make a crapy movie any better.

I do enjoy HD and surround sound if it's available. It is not the most important thing to me though. I would rather have a great story.

HD helps I guess, but I'm perfectly happy with Standard Def.
