use a Strong Password. Like they'll say don't use common words and so on. I REALLY hate that.

impossible to remember strong passwords unless you make them all the same, which is worse than having a weak password for a random site that you don't care the least bit about.

It's for your own good, now I know that your GS password is weak and easily hackable. See? Now you must use strong password in order for someone here not to hack your account.

It's to prevent your account from getting hacked. Weak passwords are at worst guessable and at best cracked within a few minutes of starting a dictionary attack. Assuming you use some of the more commonly used passwords, that time could take as little as a fraction of a second.

I dont mind, all of my passwords are combinations of words that only have meaning to me and numbers. I used to play WoW so the threat of hackers was always at my door

I hate it if its a site I'm just randomly signing up for just to get access to something. Like a site I don't really care about. For important things like my email I use different passwords between all of them and they're all quite strong passwords. For some random site I join to get a coupon or something I don't care what really happens to the account and I don't want to have to struggle to think of another complicated password and then have to remember it.

Well if they want a strong password, then I guess I've been using the strongest of them all: abc123.

I dislike compulsory registration too. Of course, I have a throw away email specifically for those. As far as my passwords go, I use a bunch of different complicated ones. I have been using 1-2-3-4-5 for years and nobody has gotten into my luggage yet. :P

It doesn't bother me because I already use a strong password. It's kind of dumb to be ticked off about internet safety.

yes, cause needing a secure password is complete bull.

After failing 300x in a row on my password you'd think a brute force attack would be obvious to any security team. It's not something hard to add in. On the other end of the spectrum I hate when I'm locked out after 3 failures... especially when it was a caps lock mistake.

All having a secure password ensures is that users will forget their password, and need to rely on "forget your password" questions, or tech support. Both of which are completely unsecure. Remember when sarah palin's facebook, and yahoo account got hacked, and it was all because the hacker googled the answers?

I can understand a site not letting me use certain things for a password (qwerty, letmein, username), but other than that it's rediculous.

I don't hate it...I mean, my passwords are at least 12 digits long (including numbers) and they're relevant in my life, so it's not something I'll ever forget.

this sums up my feelings 100% ive got who knows how many passwords on various sites the annoying thing is if youve been on the net for 10+ years the password rule was not always there so at some point 4 digit passwords were acceptable. and i swear paypal resets my password every month cause i always have to reset it and remake it to the same damn thing. oh well i can tolerate a site like paypal being anal. but 98% of the other sites on the net its dumb its annoying and only serves for me to have go use one of the 3 guesses i get to try and remeber which of the possible 20 passwords i could of used. cause some sites care some sites i signed up for back the internet didnt care and now some sites require AGJUIhiudgsdfgyt768598675986 as a password. its ridiculous. i wish all forums just allowed free guest viewing. which would negate 98% of this problem.

Yeah! Why does it bother you? They are asking you to have a stronger password, that prevents your account from being hacked. I see nothing to be unhappy about.

No, but it annoys me when they disallow you to use the name of the website in it, though I see the logic.

I'll tell you what... I have the same password for everything, and shorter versions of it for less than legit sites... My password like 20+ characters though, that involve my bank account, my social security number, and my childhood hero...

If a hacker can guess 25 randomly placed characters that involve my childhood hero (that only I know of), my Social Security number that only I, My employer, and the government know, AND my bank account info that only I, my bank, and the government know... Then good for them.

But in 6 years since I first made an account with a password on the internet... I have never been "hacked"... Same password the entire time...

I have three predefined passwords in my mind and use them base on the website I'm gonna use. If they don't let me use those passwords I skip the site.

What makes me mad is when a website doesn't let you go over a certain number of characters. I mean, it's not like you have to store this info in plaintext, all the hashes that you deal with serverside should be around the same length. No reason to deny people more secure passwords unless you think they're all too stupid to remember something over 16 characters long. >_>

No it doesn't bother me. I have several passwords I keep in mind when I register or a website so I always have backups in case the website doesn't like one of my passwords.
