I was at an aquiantance's house and he had his grandparents in jars in the living room...
is the whole coffin and hole in the ground not cool with some people?
Although they were nice urns

Somehow creamation makes a death more permanent to me. There's no chance there's a mistake and the person will wake back up. But space wise they're good. How many bodies can we bury before there's no room left?

if it makes you feel any better, after the embalming theres no chance they'll wake back up :P
Being buried is actually more scary. To even think you rot, it's disgusting. At least with cremation, you can be portable, your family will carry you everywhere and at least you'll be freed from the container (pot, Tupperware, vase) graciously and in your favourite place, if you left a will or told your relatives about it.
I have a deep fear of being burned alive while trapped in a box.
However, the thought of being a pile of sand in a jar disturbs me less than having worms eating me while I turn into a pile of smelly apple-sauce.
I think it's mostly Hinduism and Buddhism that do cremations. Also they do use special incense so the body doesn't produce a burning smell when cremated (burnt hair produces an awful smell, while burnt flesh produces a smell like meat cooking, both of which are things that people want to avoid during the funeral).Burials cost a lot of money and some religions do cremations instead of burials.

I think Islam actually forbids cremation and Catholicism only allows it provided that it is not seen as a sign of the Denial of Bodily Resurrection.
I would rather be burried. Yeah, sure you rot but eventually you will become part of new life that will gain strength from your body. You will become part of the cycle of life again. On the other hand, cremation just keeps you in a jar where your remains just sit there doing nothing and what would happen if someone accidently knocks over the jar onto the floor? I don't wan't to inconvinience my family by forcing them to clean me out of their favorite perisan rug...

Yeah I'm a Buddhist. Cremations are the norm for the dead. The body cremation at the end of the funerals I've attended, has always been the toughest part for me.I'm freaked out about being buried alive and being burned alive too... and drowning...XilePrincess
How do you feel about being locked inside a flaming wooden box aboard a sinking ship?
Same here,I think burials are a waste of space.

Eh? You don't have to kept in a jar if you're cremated, it's pretty normal to have them scattered, perhaps even more so than the urnI would rather be burried. If I were cremated I'd want to be buried, not kept in somebody's house. I'm freaked out about being buried alive and being burned alive too... and drowning... XilePrincessIf you volunteer for organ donation you'd avoid all of those.
I don't have a particular preference. 2 of my grandparents were buried and the other 2 and my stepmother were cremated. It definitely doesn't freak me out. It' s been done for centuries.

I feel like I hate you for putting these images into my head >:[ But really, I can swim OK, and if the box burned enough that the wood was weak, the water would put the fire out and I could bust my way out and swim to the surface.
If you volunteer for organ donation you'd avoid all of those.markop2003I am an organ donor :) That makes me feel better. It should have been common sense that they'd take that all out first, but I've watched too many stupid scary movies.

No, I want to be cremated so my dead body isn't taking up unnecessary space.
I'm fine with it. Before that one sperm cell managed to get to that egg cell, I was but a tiny wiggly tadpole like cell. What's the difference if you were burned to ashes? :|
No, in fact funerals freak me out.
Mainly because a funeral is meant to be a so-called 'sacred ritual' of whatever sort, celebrating the life of one who recently passed. Yet, companies and churches profit off it and those who are buried are nothing more than a name and an experiation date (in most cases). It's even worse when the pastor spends more time rambling on about Jesus and the rapture as opposed to, you know, celebrating the life of a loved one.

I think that's creepy that the urns were in the living room, but I want to be cremated. I hate funerals and burials and I'd rather that people not have to go through them for me.
