It varies from state to state in America. The state i live in does have a castle law, ie a mans house is his castle, enter at your own peril. I actually went to school with a guy who entered the wrong apartment by mistake after coming home drunk one night. The resident shot him in the head and killed him. There is no repurcusions due to the castle law. Its a touchy subject, but in the event of a robber or other ill intentioned intruder entering my residence, im not pausing to aim for a non-vital limb, especially not knowing if the intruder is armed or not. In another case in Maryland a robber entered a college students house and was in their garage, the resident chopped his hand off with a samurai sword and the guy bled to death. Not sure how it relates, but kind of funny.
Yes, we have Castle Laws in Tennessee. They had them in Georgia too, and I had to exercise those rights.
In Arizona we have a stand-your-ground law, which is more lenient than a castle law.
I think it's absolutely permissable to shoot an intruder in certain circumstances, but only when necessary to prevent harm.
As for killing an intruder, I think that's always something to avoid, except in the most extreme situations.
Along with anything that moves. I believe when you buy alcohol you get a loaded 9mm.well in Texas i dont know if we have castles but i do believe you can shoot at an intruder in Texas. It will be counted as self defense i believe.

I believe in california you can only shoot if they present danger to you.

Same in Texas -- the only difference is that intruding into someone's home without invitation is considered "presenting danger".
And let's face it -- if they're breaking into your home, they're not coming in to play checkers.
Yes, we have the castle doctrine here in Alabama. You're allowed to use deadly force on a person breaking into your house. Sadly though, it sometimes ends in tragedy. Not too long ago a group of young teens broke into a house in my local area, and the owner of the house fatally shot a 14 year old. No charges were filed, but it was a horrible incident.
