I am starting to hate it when I have to do homework on my computer. It takes me forever to finish the assignment because I get distracted so easily and usually spend more time on GameSpot or some other site then I do on my assignment. Is this a problem for anyone else or just me?!?!?!?

I share that problem, but its also my most productive work environment if I can gather my focus.

I'm not in school right now, but it's been a problem for me the past. That being said I prefer typing out my homework than sitting down with a pen and paper.

I'm old enough that we did our homework on either notebook paper or worksheets. I didn't know that had changed.

yeah, im comfortable doing it that way. When its required now to pretty much do everything on the computer, I easily lose focus on other things. I think I will always prefer the pen and the paper.

I'm the same too. This is why I start my homework the day I get it and work bit by bit for a few days. This makes it so I don't do it all at once in the end.

I just unplug my internet cable or go to the college library when I need to get some serious work done, it's much easier to stay focused

Yes, this is a problem. I generally start working on homework with plenty of time to do it, but go really slowly on the computer. Then when the deadline is approaching I get really stressed and work a little more diligently, though still slow enough to keep building stress throughout. Then I stay up all night to finish the assignment, and get an A.

Edit: Whoo, 4000th post!

I try not to type my homework, and do it by hand. I do retain the information as well if I type it. Even if my hand writing is horrendous and teacher often complains to me, but "meh" I do what is best for me

Getting distracted on the computer has actually been a huge problem for me. I think the only way to fight it is to leave my computer home and go to the library to study and such. If I don't do that I'll be on Facebook 5 minutes after starting an assignment...

Yeah, I do not believe in doing homework... at home. Never do it. Only when you really have to. Bring food to some place, do everything there.

Doing your homework on a computer is more efficient. At least it can be. It's still a pain to do it, though. I greatly dislike doing work in general, regardless of the medium I do it on.

Yeah... I get so distracted. Right now I'm supposed to be doing two projects and some math homework. I agree with mahlasor in that I don't believe in homework. Come on, I spend six hours of my day in school... why should I have to bring some of that school home with me?

Yeah it's bad for me too. I get distracted so easily on my computer that it usually takes forever to finish simple assignments.

Well, (most) problem sets are easier to do with pencil and paper, but essay writing and empirical work on problem sets pretty much have to be done with computers.

Yeah, it's easy to procrastinate, but the biggest thing is just getting yourself started. Once you actually start an assignment getting a flow is pretty easy.

Agreed.

I try to do my homework at lunch or on spare blocks in the library, more free time at home is always nice.

It's absolutely stupid that my uni uses all these "online homework services". So far, I haven't had a single written or paper copy assignment in uni yet and it's a bit frustrating for me since I'm so addicted to the internet. It really sucks. I could bet you that I'd get much better grades if hw was turned in with a physical copy just like in my high school.

I'm with you on that one, tc. It's 10 PM and I was just about to start a paper due tomorrow. Then I realized that I can skip one of these last three papers.

I've done all my school work on the computer since 10th grade. All my courses are online. I actually find I can get through stuff faster on the computer than if I have to write it out on paper (math, specifically).

Not really. I'm focused enough to do my homework. Usually its physics using some program or taking a quiz through blackboard. My biggest issue is studying. I don't really study as often as I should. Or reading the text book. I usually just go to lecture, take notes, and then never revisit that information ever again. However, that is a really bad habit. You should always review the stuff you learn or even read it after lecture. Otherwise you just forget it.

Most c++ and assembly coding assignment are made done with my slim laptop, not the handwriting or even old typewriter machine!
