[QUOTE="Tjeremiah1988"]is it true it doesnt matter the name but whats inside the computer?FUBAR24
yeah. thats why my next laptop will be an Asus, relatively unknown to the end user market but they have been making parts for computers since the 60's

just read the reviews before you buy and you should be fine. do that with ANY electronic purchase.

HP has some of the best customer support I've ever had to contact. I sent one laptop in due to a faulty motherboard (a recall so free repair) and another a failed heatsink out of warranty (which I had to pay for). They shipped me boxes overnight, I shipped them back overnight on their dime and I received repaired laptops back within five days of my service call. No fuss, no muss. You want bad support? Call Asus. Worst. Support. Ever.

I also have an HP laptop, and I also had problems with it. The back light of the screen started to flicker and I had to send it in while I had warranty, when I got it back it worked well for little while but around two weeks later I started to have the same problem. I could not send it in again because my warranty expired. Another problem I had was that my last hard drive failed so I had to buy a new one. I can say that HP will not be my next computer. lol

Also, I can't recommend Thinkpads enough. Mine is built like a tank and has the best keyboard I've ever used on a notebook. I've taken it apart, and the innards are protected with a titanium roll cage. The back of the LCD is rubberized and there's a feature that uses motion sensors to park the HDD if you drop the laptop. Also, it looks like it's made of plastic, but it actually has a magnesium alloy endoskeleton. Mine is almost four years old and I've had no issues with it. The only issue with the Thinkpads is that once you configure them, they get pretty expensive.

DO NOT go with a Dell laptop. I had an Inspiron a few years ago and it had an overheating problem. It would continually build up heat and when it reached a certain threshold the fan kicked on. When that happened the entire thing slowed to a grind, and because it relied on the fan so much it broke very easily and became even slower. I've heard this is a design flaw on most Dell laptops and I've resolved never to buy one again. When I say slow, I mean slow like you'd think you were on a five year old computer slow.

That's weird, I think they fixed that problem because I got a Dell Inspiron a year and a half ago and have left it on for extremely long periods of time with gaming sessions as well and never had a heat problem. In fact mine worked flawlessy despit being ripped off the desk by the power cord from my dogs running around twice. It only stopped working two days ago when I spilled an entire glass of iced tea all over. Just ordered a Dell XPS to replace it and am waiting on the repair shop to find out how much of the old hard drive they can save.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, always have an external hard drive just in case an accident like this happens, I really wish I had one at the time.

In my honest opinion, HPs are a peices of garbage they are no where near as good as they used to be. I've been using a HP desktop for almost six years after having it it for less than three I updated the BIOS and other drivers so counter strike would play as smooth as possible, less than an hour later the machine goes into sleep mode and wont respond while it screemed BIOS beep codes which I'm sure that some sort of damage was done to the most likey cheap EPROM on the cheap mainboard and yes I knew what I was doing when I updated the drivers on the machine.

A year before that, I went to go use it and it had a complete system crash for no reason while being less than two years old. The HDD died a few months ago, my uncle went to go install a new one and it gave a error message saying the drive was unreadble, he tried a few more same error message the hard drives were fine my guess it was the BIOS as the BIOS is responsble for controlling the HDD.

I'll have enough money soon to buy me own computer, which will most likely be a 15 inch macbook pro which will mainly be used for music creation.

I'm really hoping someone from HP reads this thread. For every happy customer, there seems to be at least 1 unhappy customer. I'm really hoping HP will do something about their staff training. Funny thing is, I posted my initial complaint in the HP forums and had someone reply immediately saying they'd experienced almost exactly the same thing with the HP helpdesk staff. Starting to think I'm not alone here...

You should just get a Macbook like I did, I owned a HP laptop myself and I always found myself having to fix some problem with it. If you do not like Macs you should get a Toshiba laptop, I find them to be a very reliable Windows ran laptop.

Well, my HP Pavilion dv6 has been working just fine for about eight months now. Did you buy it refurbished? That's weird...

I say drown yourself, attach the computers to your legs and let them drag you to the bottom.

I think you should not play games on it anymore then, laptops normally cant handle games very well.... mine works fine now since I quit playing games on it.

.... oh, mine is not an HP tho. It's a Toshiba.
