I just got word that my Uncle who lives in Nevada got bitten by a Brown Recluse. He didnt know that he got bitten, and experienced a severe itching burning sensation on the back of his scalp. He knew he got stung by something but it was nothing he hadn't felt before so he wasn't worried (Stupid).

Over the period of a week and a half it started to get numb and one day he woke up and noticed a terrible smell. He looked at the back of his head in the mirror and about half the skin on the back of his head had rotted/fallen/deteriorated off! He got checked into a hospitol and apparently if he had waited any longer he would have been dead meat.

I had never heard of a spider like that before. Disgusting. Oh and my Uncle is an idiot, he lives in friggen Nevada. If I got stung by anything in a desert I would be in the E.R. quick as hell.

I just looked up the spider on Wikipedia, and good god, it can take years for those bites to heal up. I hope he will be okay.

Apparently they are very small, like max size is about the width and length of a quarter. And the initial bite doesnt hurt. They often get into hats and stuff then bite when pressed down on.

My uncle was once bitten by a Brown Recluse. Within a week or so the skin on his toe looked like a BAD case of frost bite, and the skin was pealing off. Horrible.

Edit: How the hell did he get bitten on the back of the head?

My uncle has two theories as to how he was bitten on the back of his head.

1. It somehow made it into his hat and it got adgitated when he put it on.

2. When he went to a lake and layed in the sand. He said this was a week before he felt symptoms though so its not likely and apparently they dont live by lakes or something.

Yeah spiders secrete an enzyme that dissolves flesh. Humans aren't safe from the really poisonous spiders.

There's this spider in Australia that bit some lady. Not only did it screw up her hand from biting it but the enzyme continues to dissolve flesh on random parts of her body as it is in her system. Her leg has a huge area that is dissolved right down to the bone.

I hope she's okay now, I saw this show with her in it about a year ago. Not sure if that is still happening to her.

That's enough to make me never want to go to Australia.

Actually I think spiders are pretty cool. Granted I am scared of the bigger or poisonous ones. But anyway, without spiders we would be screwed with the overpopulation of insects. At least they ONLY bite in self defense. Bugs like mosquitoes and other bugs see us as prey. Spiders help us more than they hurt us. And the vast majority of spiders aren't even lethal. They usually just want you to leave them alone.

Your in luck, theres only the black widow spider in south florida and contrary to popular belief the amount it usually gives you can't do any major damage to you and is just diffused in the blood stream. P.S where do you live? I'm in Broward.
