I have began a develpoing interest in the terrible, grimy world of politics. I'd love to know what you guys have to say about politics. My opinion: We are just stupid oafs trying to have power over people, when we should all work together for the greater good. More or less socialism, because these stupid **** in America can't seem to work together.

Socialism has been tried all over Europe and has failed. Greece has already gone bankrupt. I don't know why people think that America can do the same thing and get a different result.

I wouldn't be going to college for political science if I hated it.

...But then talking to people in OT about it is a different story. :x

I love debating politic at my university (either local, provincial, national or international), but I wouldn't get directly involved because it is not a field I would enjoy being involved in every day of my life.

I used to enjoy a political debate and would regularly follow the current political field in America. However, as of the last two years or so I have become almost apathetic due to the realization that it seems not a single person within politics has any clue what needs to be done.

Politics is kind of a paranormal activity. There are sightings of decisions being made but whether politicians actually had something to do with it remains uncertain. Politicians are spin doctors first and foremost. It's a TV show. Youtube Berlusconi :P He has some really funny episodes.

What is it people have against socialism as a goverment? I don't mean the type that is for communists, but I mean for Sweeden and Norway (I think). They all are rich and great places to live in, and then people come and bash those places saying that they're terrible. Socialism=People working in unison. Communism=One rule; the leader and only the leader.

Communism is as much the leader and only the leader as capitalism is everyone for themselves. Capitalism is sucking big time right now because people are working around the rules. Communism would be the same. Both systems work but only to the extend that you can trust the leaders/people with money. Socialism wouldn't be much different I imagine. What we see now is there are people hiding behind a wall of rules making use of them in unethical ways. These people, capitalism's ego-trip, and the systems resulting complexity are the problem.

A society is a mass-relationship. It is just like a normal relationship built on trust. We have become less a community more a pack of lone wolves in this system. The basis of society is removed or at least trembling because of the nature of capitalism and the people abusing the system.

I'll probably just quit the site.

Without political or religious threads, the board would be horrible and see VERY little traffic. It'd be nothing but "Hey guys, I need girl help!" threads and "M Bison VS Goku" threads.

He is also not the first president to go on a deficit spending spree either. That said, any type of deficit spending makes me want to export all our politicians to Antarctica or something.

sweden's social democratic policy regime is doing well. their system isn't 100% socialist and there have been a bit more open to neoliberal economic reforms in the past years but i still feel they are a good example of how workable a socialist rooted system of governance can work in a society.

Like socialism is a bad thing. I for one like our roads and school and police.

And as a socialist, I can say Obama is not a socialist. He's not even far left.

Yes...I love it. My favorite part is during election season. I love watching the different candidates maneuver the political landscape trying to outflank their opponents. It's like watching one big game of chess. Looking forward to the upcoming GOP primary for President.

People who study Politics all their lives dont even know wtf they are talking about, so the last thing I need to do is waste my time on either acting like I know whats going on or trying to convince other misinformed people that my misinformed opinions are the right ones

On the contrary, I think that a lot of people do understand what needs to be done, but things have become so polarized that their voices cannot be heard. I want honest debate. I'm a liberal, but I acknowledge that I may not be right on ever issue. I want liberals and conservatives to talk things out and maybe, just maybe, learn a thing or two from one another.

I have had no good experience discussing anything political with anyone and haven't even seen any redeeming factors to the entire political world that make it worth liking. But I've probably just been spending too much time on OT/the internet.
