You could break down the front wall into the hallway and build a toll booth around where your room is, then you could charge people to go past and when they give you crap you can just throw a b*tching tax on top of the original fee.
Not much you can do with a dorm unless you're lucky.
Best you can do is buy some storage stuff, try to keep junk off the floor, put up some ambient lights (christmas lights, rope lights, lamps), make sure you lay down a rug, and load the walls up with posters.
Having a lot of places to sit is a bonus. Lots of pillow are great for when people are going to sit on the floor. Blankets are great too because girls get cold pretty easily and it's nice for them to be able to wrap up in a blanket.
Also the more fabric and soft stuff you avhe in the room, the better it is on keeping the noise down so you can afford to be a bit noiser. Don't waste space with a massive TV or something. Keep as much space open as possible, it fills up really really fast.
The last time I lived in a dorm was back in 1993. Here's an old Polaroid of it:
Obviously, I don't have much skill as an interior designer either.
I did have a big Jolly Roger flag on the wall behind me.
