Am I the only one who didnt know you could nor that they made these? I bought Phone Booth recently and opened it to be greeted by a double sided DVD, one side was full screen and the other was for wide screen. Out of the 200 movies I own I have never seen this, until I purchased this. I thought it was pretty cool! So am I just out of the loop or I am not the only one?

You might just be the only one Swagga, but who knows. I haven't seen many of them but I've owned a few in the past.

Would you know why they dont do this more? I am guessing since most tvs are strictly widescreen now but I think its better then putting a picture on the front.

...no. CDs have music, DVDs have movies. CDs hold 750MB, DVDs hold 4.7 GB.

CD's are so cheap to make, that it's super rare to see these. Bands like to have their logo/art on one side of the CD. I too have a few double sided DVD's. Superman 1-4 on 2 DVD's for $10 comes to mind.

You can get both in a variety of capacities, midget CDs only store 50mb whilst dual layer double sided DVDs store 16gb. The difference is in the laser, CD's use 780nm whilst DVDs use 650nm.

I have a bunch of movies on double sided DVDs and have had them for quite some time. It is great depending on what you watch them on. It fills the screen either way.

I hate them. I'd rather have two discs than one double-sided disc.

I have a double-sided DVD of Rocky from about ten years ago. :P But I hate double sided DVDs. It doubles the likelihood that they'll be scratched.

I bought a PS2 magazine years ago that came with one, they kept bragging that the disk was double sided and said "WE'RE THE ONLY MAGAZINE THAT CAN DO THIS!!!" Shame there was nothing interesting on the DVD, except loads of pictures of scantily clad women and some comparison between gamecube and xbox which said that the xbox was boss

The closest we have is DualDisc, which CD on one side, and DVD on the other.

I have a couple . Honestly though I do not see why I would ever want to watch a 4:3 version of a movie originally in widescreen . Some split the movie into two halves , though now that is not really necessary anymore due to DVD's now being able to hold more content.

They're a pain in the ass, get scratched easier. Glad they dropped those and the "clip" cases. Though, it looks like The Ghost Writer will be released on a flip disc with one side being DVD and the other being Blu-Ray.

I've got a few of them. It's primarily the older ones. In fact, my copy of True Romance I watched yesterday is like that.

The double-sided disks where out when people didn't have a widescreen TV back in the day when DVD's where starting to really pickup and most people still had a 4:3 TV set and bought VHS tapes. Kind of like how Disney has been doing the whole DVD/Blu-Ray combo because they know everyone doesn't have a Blu-Ray player yet and that in time they will so they don't have to buy the same thing again.

Double-sided DVDs have been around for over 10 years; the other option is putting standard and widescreen on the same side, which can only be done with shorter movies or by using dual-layer discs, which don't work right in all DVD players.

I have gobs of them. Tons of stuff released back during DVDs inception were dual sided/single layer discs. They phased them out in favor of single sided/dual layer discs which im going to assume were cheaper to produce after they started being heavily used.

Also what the above mentioned. Original DVD players as a majority were made with single layer discs in mind and either had trouble playing new DLs or could not play them at all so they would accomplish the same thing by putting 1 layer on each side.
