Dr. Dre's Detox is going to be embarasing if the single is any indication

Dre has never been elite or anything, but I just listened to the song "I Need A Doctor" and it was embarrasing IMO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA770wpLX-Q

Ugh, it sounds so emo and cookie cutter, like Evanesence or something like that. Between this song and Lupe Fiasco's Words I Never Said, I think Skylar Grey and hip hop (if you can even call this stuff hip hop) don't agree with eachother.

I mean, I would agree with anybody who says that Dre needed to move past his old sound, but this is just the wrong route.

If the whole album is like this song, I simply will not be able to get through it.

i have to agree

im a huge fan of his work. That guy always delivered the most bangin beats but i can't listen to his new stuff. Too much dirty southish which he doesn't handle very well. He should stick to smth like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nzQMHLk6LA

heavy basslines which just stick in your head for hours. On top those really punchy drums... gotta love his old work

It sounds like a song from Recovery. It doesn't sound like something I want from a Dr. Dre album. It might've been better if Dre just scrapped Detox altogether since there's no chance it would ever live up to the hype.

And I completely agree about Skylar Grey. She has a good enough voice but on the hooks I've heard from her I've been thinking "this would be so much better if someone like Rihanna was doing it".

i don't want rihanna on a dre record either :D eminem can keep her

Oh I agree, Rihanna on a Dre album doesn't really fit...but if they were insistent on doing a song like this I think she would have been better than Skylar Grey.

I miss Nate Dogg. :(

Agreed. Rihanna's voice is phenomenal and instantly distinctive. She was pretty much the reason that Love the Way You Lie was one of the better songs on Recovery.

As for the bolded, I get the feeling that Eminem had a big part in this song sounding like this.

Yeah, but like JML said, this record has been getting quite a bit of hype.

i wouldn't go that far he maybe didn't realease any new albums after 2001 but he produced a lot of classic albums in the last 10 years. You're partly right tho, since the time this whole dirty south stuff became mainstream he isn't that relevant as he used to be. the guy is a legend tho, no hip hop producer comes close to his production imo

Yeah, of the songs I've listened to I don't think it will be as good as his other albums. Its quite sad to be honest as I really loved his first two.

The song's ok, not his best. Maybe the steroids are affecting him, he's freaking huge now.

I liked it, but then again I'm relatively new to rap.

Record labels need to get off their rapper's asses and let them release a single that is slightly demanding and hardcore, WITHOUT A SMURFING POP CHORUS!

I wish they wouldn't put such cheesy ass choruses in these songs, the verses were pretty solid but I had to skip the chorus every time, it's almost instantly annoying. Dre is jacked as hell now though.

I agree. The song isn't terrible.. But it simply doesn't stand out like his old stuff - It just blends into the background.

I agree that the song isn't anything special, but this is Dre we're talking about. I doubt that he will release an album full of pop-esque hip hop. He will bring his beats, and if Hittman is on it along with Nate Dogg, Snoop, Kurupt ... like Chronic 2001 I'm sure that there will be plenty of G'd up beats on board. They don't remind me of the type of rappers that would perform with pop like beats...just saying. I can't wait for this cd personally.

I dl it yesterday off itunes and really wish I would have listened to the preview first. The song is garbage. I really think Dre should just scrap the Detox album and stick to producing.

I listened to the album already and all I have to say is, "meh." Just like Recovery, its predictable, takes no risk, and its been there done that. For the pioneer producer that he is, Im surprised he didnt take any risk. Kanye honestly has been the only one keeping up with any hype.
