Link! Does this mean they will make a sequel? They nailed the character and the universe perfectly in this film. Karl Urban was perfect (Oscar snub?).

Terrible film. SaintLeonidasAs a stand alone action movie or compared to the comics? I haven't read very many of the comics, but from my point of view the movie is like one huge action scene that rarely lets up and the titilar character is exactly what he should be, a tool for dealing justice. IT was freaking sweet!
lol That article said TDKR was family friendly.Â
Â
As for the topic, good for Dredd. I still haven't seen it yet. Waiting for my netflix rental when the time comes.Â
I thought it was a great movie. A thousand times better than the Stallone version.
Hopefully they do make a sequel.
Decent enough film, but the likelyhood of a sequel is slim to none, regardless of how well the DVD does.
What do you think, could the group of people you currently enforce the law with handle crime in this type of dystopia?
Yusuke420
Fvck no. I'd rather die than have to deal with that type of dystopia.

Which part specifically? Being a merciless judge, dealing in the same violence and death you are fighting against? Or in gigantic super structures housing people after a radical crisis?Which part specifically? Being a merciless judge, dealing in the same violence and death you are fighting against? Well, I won't lie and say enforcing my type of justice isn't enticing, but I don't think I could do it like the Judges do. So both. I don't think it's possible to police such an expanse effectively. Which is why the idea of a "sprawl" both intrigues and scares me. Like just imagine LA, NYC and Chicago all rolled into one. It doesn't sound pretty.

I could see how it would be very intimidating as it seems this is a post scarcity dystopia in which there is very high unemployment and as a result of plenty of idle time, loads of crime and violence. That being said, there's something pretty cool about being born into the law and have it be your sole function for existance. It's like a cops, prosecutor, and judge all rolled into one. It usually takes a combination of the three (some cops become judges, some prosecutors do the same), but they are all build into one person, which you'd have to admit would cut down on a lot of bureaucracy.ÂIf a fanbase can raise enough hell to get Family Guy uncancelled, surely this can be done with really strong dvd sales. Family Guy was still popular when it was cancelled; The only reason Family Guy returned was because the DVD sales for the box sets were through the roof, as well as the airings of reruns on adult swim. I seriously doubt the sales are gonna be more than enough to warrant a sequel, at least theatrically--it only made $13 Million in the US during its entire run, and the budget was estimated at around $50 mil.[QUOTE="Hallenbeck77"]

If you look at it's total gross though it is closer to 37 million dollars. A 13 million dollar gap to break even is pretty doable and sequels have been made on movied that have gone in the negative before. Dredd deserves another chance with better marketing.Â[QUOTE="Hallenbeck77"]

Studios sink in money to a project and expect a significant return on their investment--preferably during its theatrical run, not hope to break even from  the DVD sales. Not to mention the movie had no star power going for it whatsoever--Karl Urban is not an actor that gets people in theaters. At most, if they do decide for a sequel, it'll more than likely be a direct-to-video film with a much smaller budget. I honestly just don't see a sequel happening

DVD sales will hopefully make the studio its money back, but there's no way in hell another one of these movies gets made after the pathetic box office results of the first film.

Well look at The A Team, it made a few million over it's budget and they confirmed there would not be a sequel. So I have to agree, there won't be sequel period.[QUOTE="Hallenbeck77"]

I rented the Blu Ray from Redbox, and lost it in my car for 10 cars after watching. Probably would have been cheaper to just buy it. Anyways, it was easily the best super hero movie of 2012. I regret not seeing it in 3D, the movie had some gorgeous visuals and interesting camera-work.KHAndAnimeDamn dude how big is your car? :?

It slipped and fell directly underneath my car seat. I didn't even know it was in there  It was worth the ordeal though, I enjoyed the movie (and I think Redbox is an excellent service).
my thoughts exactly. and talking to some of my more comic-centric friends, this one is apparently a lot more true to the comics. -------------- For me, i was surprised how much i liked it, a little sad i didn't go see it in theaters. It's a simple set up, it's not save the world, a simple story. great action and set up, loved the inclusion of using slow-motion effects with the drug slo-mo'. Would be great if they made a sequel i thought.I thought it was a great movie. A thousand times better than the Stallone version.

Holy **** I agree with Airshocker on something! O_O
Movie was pretty awesome and I know without having seen the old version that this movie was MUCH better than the Stallone version. I don't think I have actually hear anyone say they preffered the Stallone version....
IF this movie gets a sequel, I am seeing it in theaters next time! Couldn't get anyone to go see it with me in the theater, but made my GF watch the DVD with me at home....
Terrible film. SaintLeonidas>Zero Dark Thirty as favorite film of 2012 >lol Gotta give you props for including Killer Joe on your list though. And this is good news. This movie was better than all the other superhero flicks, as well as many of the other big-budget action films of the year.
The film was very well made. Good characterization and awesome visuals. However, it didn't seem up to the standard of a typical Hollywood blockbuster, which is why I think it failed. It looked and felt like a straight-to-DVD movie, and its story was very, very simple. I think that's why it failed. Also, I'm surprised its budget was more than $5,000,000; it looked like a low-budget film.

if being a 'typical Hollywood blockbusterl' means spunking every frame with pointless CGI, then fvck Hollywood
Dredd is an action film,Â
one of the best of the last year, it had grit, used proper sets insted of green screening everything.Â
It was in your face in a way that I forgot western films could be.
