I like dubstep. I've noticed that it's being pulled into mainstream media which is great for exposure to say the least but I want to know is in the topic. Is it here to stay or just a fad?

They tend to vary as well, a lot of people think skrillex falls into the glitch category with Zomboy.well,it's been a while so i guess it's here to stay.it'll be smashed into a few subgenres though.

Interesting. While rather slow to develop in the first minute or so, I actually kind of liked that. The first one more so that Sunset.Although I don't see what separates that from Electronica/Club/Dance music.

It's mostly notorious for it's "wub wub wub" and drops. Although not all dubstep has drops, mostly just the very mainstream stuff. A good example of this would be at 0:40-0:50 ofhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIUX0NozeO4 or any skrillex song. People give it a bad rap like they do with most genres because they listen to the stuff kids blast sitting in the back of the bus and get biased opinions on it.

I hope it's a fad. I wish rap and hiphop were fads too.

Why? Is it that hard to believe that there is good hip hop music? I know everyone's entitled to their opinion, but at least give it a chance.
I gave it a chance and I don't like it.
People have been asking if it's a quick fad for years now. Ir should have probably sunk in by now, It's here to stay.Overlord93
But it hasn't been mainstream for longer than a year or two. It might just end up being old and forgotten like Disco in a few more years time. TBH there aren't any prominent dubstep artists in the mainstream besides skrillex anyways, and it seems that he isn't even real dubstep according to th vets.

heh.. are you like the dubstep GS ambassador, cause you pop into every "dubstep" thread made. Which is cool because i think Dubstep is definitely misinterpreted. The saving grace of dubstep to me at least and a large part of it's success is the fact that female vocal go oh so well to a nice bassline/high synths. I like dubstep, so maybe i'm biased when saying i think it is here to stay.I don't care anymore. If people want to listen to garbage, that's them.CRS98How do you listen to garbage? Is it like putting a seashell next to your ear? Wouldn't that not be sanitary for your ears/hands? Why would people put garbage on their ears then?
Dubstep is a fad at the moment, but the genre will likely stick around when that fad dies. The genre was around way before it found popularity, and arguably the commercilisation has diluted the sound somewhat. Still, original style dubstep (with a heavier focus on dub and reggae roots) is still around, so it isn't as if the genre has gone completely commercial.
Same with any genre that gains popularity I guess.
Dubstep has beenrather mainstrem for a while now, it statred getting played on BBC radio in 03, then got big in 06.
Don't forget BWAH BWAHwub wub wub.
That's basically all dubstep is. I despise it by the way.

You probable never heard any good rap or hiphop outside of radio crap then
Oh trust me I have. There's just this thing called not liking a genre.
What don't you like about the genre?
Skrillex is killing dubstep.I only listen to Skrillex and like his music a lot but he's the only dubstep artist I like. If most dubstep were more like his as in more agressive and less "danceable" then for me dubstep could stay for as long as the industry wants it.
lancea34
DJ distance, skream and benga are great dubstep producers.
