Dungeons & Dragons... ???

Some guy made what can only be refered as "The Longest Post in the History of Humanity" over at System Wars forum. Now, the hole thing, frome the little I manage to read, was an analogy between the System War posting patterns and Dungeons and Dragons.

All I can say is that I've never played the game and never have I seen anyone play it either. The post made wonder about it since he went on explaining everything asuming that the person reading it knew how to play D&D.

Now, if possible, I would like to hear frome someone who knows how to play. Im not asking for an in-deph guide or anything but the thing is.... how on earth do you play a freaking game with nothing but words?!?! and how is it fun?

NOTE: dont get me wrong on that last part, Im not saying it aint fun or that it aing interesting, its just that I dont know anything and Im willing to bet that this aint the first time someone says that to yo D&D player.

You don't play D&D with just words, people actually make models of their characters and pretend to go on the quests with the system created by the founders of D&D.

D&D is nothing if not in-depth. The game is like strategist/RPG crack. If you have ever played Baldurrs Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR or KOTOR 2, then you have already played D&D, you were just not aware, since all those games use the D&D system.

D&D is a tabletop role playing game. The publishers of the game give you a set of rules to govern the world, its inhabitants, etc. The players all pretend to characters in this world, and another player (the game-master or storyteller) controls the world around them and guides them through the scenario.

D&D is about pretending to be someone in a fantastical situation and making the choices for that character. There are about a skillion different ways to play and layers of depth depending on the individual players' preference. You can make scale models ofthe world and your characters, or you can play the entire game in your head.

Did you ever play Cowboys and Indians? Or Cops and Robbers? It's like that, only instead of everyone just running around shooting each other and saying "Gotcha!", there are rules, charts, maps, etc to show everyone what's going on.

The funniest things is when people get overly serious with the game and dress up to battle one another physically.
