Is it easy to get a job at one of those places?

I'm sure they work like any other place. You apply and if they have openings they'll hire new people. From what I've experience though Walmart is very adimant on hiring ppl who are willing to work any shift (nights, weekends, holidays). They don't cater to kindly to ppl going to school or with 2nd jobs. This my just be my local walmart though.
Walmart would be easier I think between the two since it pays less. Costco in Cali starts at like 12 bucks an hour. Walmart is minimum wage.
Well, if you got past the interview, its likely that you have the job. they wouldn't waste time on you if you didn'tI passed the assesment test and it said I should hear something in 60 days or sooner

Easy in what way? There's a lot of turnover, so there's always spots opening. Easy as in they'll let anyone in? Our walmart had a one-legged 'little person' who was severely mentally handicapped working there at one time. they just put the wheelchair in park and the guy sat there and waved at people. So yes, they can hire pretty much anyone.XilePrincess
Yeah...here's the thing about that. They hired a retarded guy to sit in a wheelchair and wave. But they're not gonna hire YOU to sit in a wheelchair and wave (even though you're qualified to sit in a wheelchair and wave) because you aren't retarded and handicapped.
See...they didn't just happen to hire a retarded and handicapped guy because he was capable of doing the work. No...they likely met the retarded and handicapped person and created a job so that they could hire him. That's at least possibly a PR move, an attempt to say "we support the disabled".
Where I work, we also have a mentally retarded employee. And don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the guy. He's pretty cool. My only real complaint is that he talks too much. He just likes talking, so he CONSTANTLY talks even when he doesn't have ANYTHING to say. And that's really one of my biggest pet peeves...people who constantly talk, yet never actually SAY anything. most of what's coming out of their mouths is just meaningless garbage chatter. To those people, I don't think that they're BAD people. I just wish that they'd shut the **** up for a little while, THINK about what they want to talk about, and then not speak to me again until they actually can produce something which is worth hearing.
But I obviously give the mentally retarded coworker a pass, since he probably can't help it. Talking to him (or more specifically, listening to him talk) pisses me off to no end, but I can't exactly tell him to **** off and get lost. After all, he can't help it. He's mentally retarded. So instead, I just sort of casually act nice to him, while trying to keep him far away from any kind of significant and meaningful relationship. So like...I'll drive him to work every Sunday because that's no skin off my ass, but I try VERY hard to avoid getting pidgeonholed into playing the role of his "friend".
Anyway...here's the thing. This dude didn't just happen to be qualified for work at my place of business despite being mentally retarded. He got to know people, then asked for a job, and then got hired for non-existant jobs like "the guy who rolls silverware". That's not an ACTUAL job. They just didn't have the heart to tell a mentally retarded man to go get bent, so they instead created a job just for him. If my brother wre to apply to the same job, them they'd tell my brother to go to hell. See...my brother ISN'T severely mentally retarded, so it would be sort of a jerk move to ask to have the exact same job as that of a mentally retarded guy who was incapable of performing ALL jobs and was thus given a token menial "job" just in order to put him on the payroll.
So yeah...retarded wheelchair Wal-Mart guy MIGHT not indicate that anyone can get a job doing his job. That also MIGHT simply indicate that they simply created a job for him because he was retarded and crippled and literally couldn't do the stuff that their other employees are required to do.
-----MrGeezerI certainly didn't mean any offense by my statement. I simply meant that whatever your handicap, whether it's physical, mental, or something else (like having no experience), walmart can hire you and find a job for you. So while they may not be given 'actual' jobs, they can still get hired. Anyone can get hired, they'll find something for you to do if you have some sort of difficulty or disability, I simply meant that having some sort of setback doesn't automatically rule you out for a job at walmart, they're pretty open to hiring just about anyone.
I got a summer job at walmart a while back, as a night time shelf stocker for the heavier inventory, at the time i weighed about 105 pounds.... yeah it shouldnt be too hard, might take a few tries tho.

Oh, I'm not offended. And I definitely agree that they CAN hire anyone. I'm just saying that they probably aren't going to go out of their way to make special and unique accomodations unless the person is an extreme case (for example, being a physically and mentally disabled "dwarf"). Unless the TC is really OBVIOUSLY disadvantaged in such an obvious and extreme way (which he probably isn't), then Wal-Mart and Target probably aren't going to give him some kind of special exceptions. They certainly CAN hire anyone, I agree. You'll get no argument from me there. I'm just saying that the "physically and mentally challenged dwarf" scenario is likely a very rare scenario which likely isn't in ANY way applicable to the TC's situation.
