I just dont get it.... all my mom ever wants to do for her birthday is go out to eat. I spend like 50$ and all you do is crap it out the next day. Why not get something that will last a little bit longer? grrrr, i mean going out to eat can be somewhat fun, but i like cooking. Also it is just not worth the price. What do you think?
Going out to eat is nice because you can eat something tasty you would not normally cook, nobody has to do dishes, the ambiance, it's nice to be waited on,  and its a break from the every day norm.
My mom is a very good cook. she loves to cook, and she loves to make different things. It's almost different food everynight because she doesn't like to cook the same food all the time. So nice to have a home cooked healthy and great tasting meal every night. hope she can teach me so i wont have to start eating out all the time.

You just don't understand whats going on in your mother's head. Material objects don't matter, you can put a price on them. Having a dining experience with a family member that you love is priceless. When your mother passes away you will cherish the memories you had with her at the restaurant. Those are the moments you both will look back on, cherish them while you can.

I drink; water, orange juice, grape juice, lemonade, and lemon juice. I eat; oranges, cashews, beans, potatoes(Mashed), lemons, grapes, strawberries, watermelon, apples, bananas, corn, tomato soup, vegetable soup(Tomato, not beef or chicken or chowder), and sauces with(Non animal involved) french fries. I'd rather not waste money to have that. I wouldn't benefit at all from wasting money eating out. However, if it was going out with someone, I suppose, but I would get a glass of water and mashed potatoes with those awesome cinnamon apples they have at Chilis.... Kind of pointless to eat out.

But wouldn't it be more memorable if say, you cooked her favorite meal, and waited on her yourself?

I think if it's her birthday all that should matter to you is that is what she really wants, maybe it makes her feel like a lady to be taken out to dinner, even if it is by her son. You should always do anything that makes your mother happy without question... unless of course she hates you and wants you to kill yourself or something but you know what I mean:P

I think if it's her birthday all that should matter to you is that is what she really wants, maybe it makes her feel like a lady to be taken out to dinner, even if it is by her son. You should always do anything that makes your mother happy without question... unless of course she hates you and wants you to kill yourself or something but you know what I mean:P
igonna agree with this guy.
I mean, yes going out to eat is pretty much a waste of money, but if it makes someone happy than its worth it.
On another note, its not uncommon for my family to eat out at least once a week. It may be a waste of money, but its a good way to kill a few hours and its yummy

Not to mention it saves having to cook for a night:) Cooking every night sucks and sometimes a break is nice, even if you just order in instead of going out somewhere

Not really. The food is typically better, and someone is doing it for you, so if you do it yourself, you're probably going to spend as much money making it.
I like to eat every so often because its a change of scenery, breaks the routine, + you dont have to spend time doing it, so you have more time to talk with your friends/family/loved one... Then again, I agree its a waste of money, but I don't personnally care all that much about my money.... All I want is to have enough left to pay my bills and prepare to get my condo next June When I was somewhat younger (22 right now), I'd pay stuff to everyone... I remember a few parties where I,d go to the local liquor store and buy for 150$+ of alcohol for everyone, it made me happy... I'm still somewhat like that, as long as I can pay my bills
I agree that it is a waste of money but sometimes it's nice to give your mom or wife or girlfriend a break from cooking... or yourself if you cook. It's not so much about doing it because you really want to, it's being nice to someone else and showing them they are special in front of others
I thinks it's partly the food, partly the "wine and dine'' experience. Gives a sense of class, I guess. I don't really care for it, though. If a place serves good food, why not eat it? Canned foods only go so far, and grocery stores spray some weird stuff on the vegetables and fruits.
i hate going out to eat for similar reasons. But it is a nice break sometimes to just relax and enjoy yourself. I mean, money is meant to be spent so why not enjoy?
One of my favorite things to do with my husband was go out to different 'classy' resturants, because the atmosphere is usually quite romantic, the food is usually extremely good (we usually got what we paid for). And to spend that good quality time together was priceless. I was made to feel like a queen when we were out and to get appriciated like that once in a while is truely an amazing feeling. Women are sentimental like that...(most women).
