There are a lot of people who would tell that ebay and the like is an easy and covenient way to buy things.  But is it? I don't think so. Half the stuff on ebay you have to auction for, the auctioning of which requires constant checking of the auctions, constant bidding to remain the highest bidder and through all of it your not even garunteed the sale. If you do end up buying the item, you than have to e mail the buyer for information regarding payment etc. This should be an easy thing to do but quite often the seller is slow to respond to your emails, or sends you irrevelant information forcing you to e mail again and wait for another response. Then theres the payment which requires a lot of mucking around ( if they don't allow paypal, which is often the case). Then once you do send the money, they usually take there sweet time to send off what you bought, they give you some rough idea of how long the package will take but it usually takes longer.

Buying the item you can never be sure that your gonna get exactly what you bought, or if it will come undamaged. Oh sure they have the feedback system, but most sellers probably feel forced to leave a positive review in order to gain points for themselves.

So basically what im saying if you want something and you can get it from the stores than do so. It may be a touch more expensive than the so called bargains on ebay, but you will get it a lot sooner and a lot easier. EBAY sucks.

Never had any problems. I always make the buyers leave feed back first before I give them feed back. As it should be done. Its something they need to make happen.

If you don't want to deal with winning the auction why don't you sign up for an account that does it for you?mrphilip11

Hmmm haven't heard of this actually, probably would be good. However it doesn't eliminate the other problems i listed.

I've never had any issues with Ebay. You just have to be careful who you buy things from. I've gotten some really good deals on it though.

Ebay is a rip off ; you can only find people who try to sell their stuff at expensive prices, and it's full of thieves, you can't rely on them. I hate it:x

Here is a tip: Dont bid if they dont have "buy now" and accepts paypal payments. That makes things alot easier. And alos if everyone did that, ebay would go alot smoother. I made alot a good bargains of ebay in my days, so i like it.

I've used eBay a few times and never had any problems. I tend to use the "Buy Now" option though, only really auctioned for an item once.

I don't see how you can buy cheap on Ebay. It may look cheap but when it comes down to the last 5 minutes people bid huge. And even if it is cheap you must remember there is a postage cost.

Those are eBay's fault why? Plus, eBay is an AUCTION site...what did you expect? A retail store that sells things at 50% off?

I've bought over 70 things, paid for about 68 of them with PayPal, and had only one problem. Everything I can't get around here (which is a lot), I buy off eBay, I think it's wonderful. Never had to email a seller to figure out the payment, it was always stated, with shipping (I'm also in Canada). Sometimes it takes a little while but it always gets here.

eBay is a place where people look for deals. As it to get somerthing cheap or find something that you can't get anymore. eBay wrecked itself by thinking they could turn a yard sale into a corprate cash machine.

There was a time when the listing fee was few bucks and it would relist for free until you either canceled it or sold it. Now eBay wants a relisting fee every week or whatever. Most items on there are only worth $20 or less. So usually there is no profit. You end up eating it to relist it. So there is no reason to auction.

The amount of items you find on eBay today is a small pathetic meager portion compared to what it used to be, because people lose more than they make. eBay will die eventually.

I only bought something off ebay once, and I had no problem getting it at all. I didn't have paypal, but the seller did have a bank account at my bank so I was easily able to transfer funds into his account directly. once that was done he mailed me my stuff the next day and I got it the day after.

for some things like books, cds, games, and most common retail products ebay does suck.

Does that mean ebay sucks as a whole?
NO, ebay is a great place to find crazy stuff you can't find in a regular store.  Where else am I going to find a fighting cock belt buckle.

The only thing that worries me about ebay is how much protection buyers receive when compared to sellers. Seller's can't leave negative feedback for buyers (which isn't so bad, really, given the amount of fraud sellers were often involved in), but buyers can essentially claim they didn't receive an item, get refunded (paypal sides with the buyer 99% of the time), leave negative feedback (while receiving positive feedback), and get the item for free, unless the seller has SUBSTANTIAL proof that the buyer is lying, which is understandably uncommon. But this is a pretty rare thing to happen, I guess, as most people are honest, but still kind of scary for sellers....

I use eBay almost every day. I find old electronics which I desire: 2x Technics SB-F820's, or a 5 Disk CD Changer, all for cheap. I can't buy this stuff new and buying it second hand saves a lot of cash compared to brand new stuff.

You are correct. Buying in a store is easier and less hassle.

However, on eBay, you can find items you cannot find anywhere else. You can also find really cheap stuff. For example, if you ever want to buy a cat-5 network cable? You can buy them at BestBuy for like $10 - $15. Or you can get them on eBay for less than 5 bucks each including shipping. I bought an outdated computer off eBay for about $55 once and it works fine still. It was a great purchase and it is something I would have been unable to buy in a normal store

Conclusion
If you are not looking for a rare item and you do not want any hassle and you don't mind paying a bit more, go to a store for sure. If any of the previous are untrue, eBay may be worth a try.
