I've heard alot of people whining on the comments for the Stock Market story, and since this doesn't fit in the comments, I am putting it in the forums.

Setting it straight:

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a "We Deserve It Dividend". To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a "We Deserve It Dividend." Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam. But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife have $595,000.00. What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family? Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved. Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads. Put away money for college – it'll be there. Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs. Invest in the market – capital drives growth. Pay for your parent's medical insurance – health care improves. Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else. Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+, including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back.
And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces. If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President. If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+! As for AIG – liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General. Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.
Sure it's a crazy idea that can never work, but it will solve it. You know it. This was an idea of a Republican, so quit blaming them.

I like how you think, but I'm sure some people will be quick to kill your idea.

Giving every american that much money would send prices through the roof.

This idea again? Someone else posted the same thing a couple days ago.

1st, your math is wrong

2nd, if everyone was wealthy, that would cause inflation. It will solve nothing, because prices for everything would increase tramendously, causing us to be in the same place we are right now. If not worse. It would solve absolutly nothing, and would have the same outcome as if the government decided just to print more money to fix its problem.

Actually, it would cause alot of problems, because the extremely wealthy would just become the middle class....

You haven't heard? That's what they do. Since our bills are "legal tender", they expect it to be worth something when compared to other countries who actually back their money up with gold/silver.

You haven't heard? That's what they do. Since our bills are "legal tender", they expect it to be worth something when compared to other countries who actually back their money up with gold/silver.

Ours used to be backed by gold bullion untill like, 1973. They changed it when the population of america became too large, so they needed to print more money to accomidate. The more money they print, the more people have (Of course), the more money you have, the more money you want. Thus, companies start charging money, you probably knew that, but whatever. Even the penny started costing more then a penny to make, so back in 1983 I tihnk, they changed the material of the penny. So a penny is actually worth like, .78 cents, but its still worth a penny. Pretty weird.

Also the more money we print, the weaker the dollar gets compaired to other countries. This affects our import costs, meaning we cant afford any import goods...

The government does print more money yes, all the time. But for every dollar we print, we burn. We take in the used dollars, and burn them before we put out the new ones.

Where was I going with this? Oh yah, we have too many people to back our currency by gold anymore, so it just wouldn't work out...not all countries back up all their money though.

So yah, I know we do print money and its not all backed up. But we regulate the amount that is flowing in the economy, so the amount of dollars doesn't really change.

So if we tried to just put more currency in the flow, it would just mess up the economy even more, and just cause inflation, and not solve anything.

Well, when an economic system is based off what essentially amounts to monopoly money, it is bound to crash now and then.

Debt is the real currency of the world today. That is what a dollar bill signifies. The US government owes you 1 dollar. The problem these days is that when people can't pay up, the money essentially disappears. People have their entire retirements in stock of companies that disappear overnight, companies without any concrete value other than the fact that people are buying and selling shares at a particular value.

If you haven't noticed, we are experiencing inflation. The problem also is that our money isn't backed by ANYTHING. Its worth the paper it's printed on (which is ~$.20 from what I've heard).

Legalizing weed and taxing it wouldn't solve the problem. People will still grow it and sell it. I doubt they will be honest and tax it.

not it wont work, it will just create inflation, giving people that much money wont do anything but increase the prices of everything across the board. 10 dollar movie tickets with be 100 dollar movie tickets etc. regardless of how much money you give it wont do anything really but hurt everyone. it is no different from giving 2 million to everyone. the tax rebate didnt do anything neither would have a bill that gave money to people(note the bill that was declined today isnt giving money to people but banks)

If we are already experiencing inflation (Which I believe is caused by the price of gas...as soon as gas prices went up, everything else went up), then how would printing more money solve anything? It would just create more inflation...

I think the bailout plan would have helped solved the inflation problem. Inflation is caused by there being too much currency in the economy, if you take some of the currency away, then maybe it woud reverse everything....I'm just thinking outload here....although then it would still not solve the problem of high gas prices, which would screw everyone over....

The bailout plan was stupid to begin with. If they save the company, other companies will be under the impression that they will get bailed out too if/when they fail. Besides, I don't want more taxes because other people in this country bought houses they couldn't afford. Serves them right for being morons. Serves the company right for not making people put 20% down. Serves investers right also since they invested in something that was corrupt.

I agree, I was 16 when this all started, too young to ever buy a home, and I am now still only 19, and still living with my dad (Economy is making it really hard to ever move out). So I had nothing to do with this, and it shouldn't be my problem, and I shouldn't have to deal with it.

But seriously, can you think of a better solution? One that doesn't involve the incicent people? Either way, the national economy is everyones problem, and you cant really escape that fact, so everyone is going to have to pay for it one way or another.....
