With Hostel: Part 2 opening this weekend, horror fans will line up to see how well this will compare to the first film.  Some people are waiting with anticipation to see if he can up the outrage factor of the original, while others are dismissing this as "torture porn."

Even more disturbing than what Roth can conjure up on the screen is what film "critic" David Poland of Movie City News.com posted on his site...an early reviel of Hostel 2 based on an illegal, pirated copy he bought this past weekend. A real classy move, a-hole.  He states more or less that Roth is a deviant and is indulging in some sick sexual fantasy with the victims in the movie.

I think Roth is just having fun pushing the buttons of those critics with the type of films he's making.  I'm actually looking forward to his adaption of Steven King's book Cell.  How 'bout you guys? What's your thoughts on this?  I'm posting a few links...the first 2 are to Movie Hole News, and the "review" to Hostel 2.* They're some SPOILERS in there, so be warned.  the 3rd is to Chud.com and one writer's opinion of the backlash.

* If you're gonna review something....a movie, game, whatever...at least critique the FINISHED PRODUCT, not a work in progress you bought as a bootleg.  To "critic" David Poland....F-you and everyone who looks like you.  Douche.

If Hostel took itself less seriously, it would rule hard.

first of all there is a difference between horror and gore. He does a good job of pushing the limits with gore but i dont think is films should be considered horror films. They are disturbing yes but i dont get the feeling of fear while watching them more like a sickness in my stomach.

Roth is a horror hack to me. Hostel is a stupid movie that uses over the top violence and gore to get scares.

I think that's pretty much the point of his films...to see if  he can rattle comeone's cage and dusturb them as much as he can.  If you're interested, Wes Craven directed a film that some considered disturbing in the 70's called Last House on the Left.  If you're into that, give it a rent.

I read an interview with him in Script Magazine. I don't like his movies, but he puts a lot of thought into his writing and filmmaking, and his movies wouldn't work if they were just gore.

I don't think the horror genre can make any more progress. Its all been done before. Audiences have already been scared just about every possible way.
