Frediie Mercury is quite possibly the most talented male singer of all time, and could play some instruments (most notably the acoustic guitar) beating Eminem on both fronts. I'd say overall lyrically (writing) they're about equal, just in different genreas, though the best Queen songs are still better then the best Eminem songs.

I think you can compare this just fine. Mainly because it shows how well some music can live on for years to come. I'm not saying Eminem diesnt have talent. It's just that pop, R&B and Rap music does not really age well among the fans. It's always about the latest & greatest songs. As the new stuff releases, the old stuff is gone. You could name countless rock pioneers and influences. But with most other music, once it heaves the radio, its never heard again. Without using Google, I wonder how many people could actually give me a worthy list of actual hip hop pioneers or a radio station that is even dedicated to them.

Okay I deleted my first response to this because I was being a dick. I'll respond in a more mature way this time. This post is very uninformed. If you were to say "hip-hop doesn't age very well because of how production techniques have changed", you could make that argument. A lot of hip-hop from the 80s, for instance, has some very barebones production and it just isn't interesting to listen to anymore.
...but then you wrote the last 5 sentences of your post. To say "people don't know who hip-hop pioneers are" is laughable. Sure there are always the people who care more about what's hot right now but you can say the same thing about people who listen to alt rock radio stations. There are people like that no matter what their genre of choice is.
And at the same time, rock production has changed quite a bit as well. That's still not stopping somebody like The Rolling Stones from selling out an entire worldwide Arena Tour almost 50 years after they formed with ticket prices in the 100.00 to 300.00 range and ticket agencies selling seats for prices in the thousands. Can you think of a Hip Hop artist who could do that in not only 50 years but 20 years from now without a song on the charts at the time? Some legendary R&B artists could probably do it but Rap gas always been more about what's hot for the minute. Or in the 80's it was called (Fresh). I'm not denying there are not a lot of one trick pony rock acts out there but a lot of classic rock is absoutely timeless. But really now. There are quite a few rock and classic rock stations playing music that covers 4 to 5 decades. But when you look at a hip hop station, its hard to get them to play something from 5 years ago let alone the mid 90's. you might hear the occasional 2Pac song but nothing really besides California Love. There was a lot of good rap back then but unfortunatly, nobody plays it except in the club. And even many of those artists couldn't sell out an arena today.
You do have the Beasties and RUN DMC who made it into the Rock & Roll hall of fame but aside from the Beastie Boys if MCA was still alive, I don't think DMC could even sell out an arena tour.
