Emo: What do you consider it to be?

Well,there's so many things being said about the term "emo",such as saying people identify with people who hate themselves,cut themselves. or anything like that.
So in your own words,what do you consider this term to be?

I usually think of it as the great old music,and the old-school emo with the thick-rimmed glasses,the bowl haircut and all that stuff,and music like :mineral
the jazz june
the promise ring
sunny day real estate
texas is the reason

But when someone else is talking about it anymore,i just take it as the "depressed,long hair,peircing,tight jeans" and the works. So,it depends on who i'm talking to most of the time.

I usually never call scene "emo" because real emo is Fugazi, Rights of Spring, Kidcrash, Saetia, Circle Takes The Square...actually good music (more of a name for old school post-hardcore).

The lyrics don't inherently define a band by their genre, but more of their sound and their instrumental sounds. Pink Floyd is most certainly not emo, as the emo sub-genre of rock didn't come until the 80s.

I could say the same thing for any "clique" in school. People just generalize emo's are people who cut themselves,that would fall into the "clique" of "deppresion".
