laser designation technology (LD) has just been taken to a whole new level. US army scientists have created a laser designation system which allows them to direct lightning bolts either natural or man made within a certain distance from its origional destination.

seen here is them redirection a man made lightning bolt from its origional target of the floor to the parked car a few feet away

while this is still in the very early stages of R&D its very likely that this could one day be used to knockout radar installations or vehicles from great distance

We are our enemies too. Americans get shot, robbed, raped, and assaulted on a daily basis by other Americans. Some people are willing to call our own government an enemy. Humans have been getting better at killing each other as the years have gone by. We are our own worst enemies, and we have thousands of WMDs to destroy Earth several times over.

It's in our nature to kill each other. Technology just makes it easier. We went from sticks and rocks to nuclear weapons that can destroy small countries. I even heard of a bomb that could ignite the ozone layer of the planet. Probably a rumor, but still scary.

Historically though conflict didn't occur until the population became such that resources were important.

Ironically, our biggest advances in technology are by products of military research. The internet, space exploration and nuclear energy to name a few.

That's right, haters, the military is the reason you can beat the crap out of a kid on Street Fighter on the opposite side of the country now instead of having to do it in person like we did 20 years ago:)

There already are laser weapons, if I recall. This is a bit different because you can actually see the energy with the naked eye.

They don't become real. They are already, and for a long time.

We already have lasers which can hurt a man badly, though usually they're used in industrial sourroundings to cut materials or the like.

Theoretically it would be possible to develop weapons out of them as well, but the amount of energy it would require a whole army to use those effectivley in combat are just unrealistic.
