Tell me if you think I should be offended: In English class, we were studying Transcendentalism and the teacher gave us all a quote from famous Trascendentalists. We had to make a visual representation of that quote. Well, what I did wasn't important. Here comes the offensive part: Keep in mind that I am Mexican-American: One guy had a quote that had to do with working hard. So he drew a guy mowing the lawn (You can see where this is going). But not just any guy, a guy wearing a sombrero with black hair and a mustache. Honestly, I have never seen a man wearing a sombrero while mowing the lawn. _____ While I'm on the subject, there is this one guy who also annoys me in my Art class. Overall he is a nice guy, however he has said some things that although I they don't apply to me, I still wanted to punch him for saying them. BTW, he is the southern/redneck/country kinda guy. For instance: We we're talking about comedians, and he said he liked Carlos Mencia. I said "I really can't stand him". He asked me "Why?" and I said "He isn't funny and he is more of a preacher than a comedian" than I said "I'm more of a Dave Chappelle kinda guy". He said "Ugh, I hate him". I said "Why?" and he goes "Umm, how about...because he is black and stupid". It's one thing to hate him, but for those reasons we're simply primitive, inane, and just plain wrong. He also said that he truely believes that homosexuals will "Rot in hell". Now, I'm Christian, but I don't believe they will go to hell for that. Even the girl who sits next to me (Very devout Christian) agreed with me. Then (Long story about how) the subject of Oprah came up, and he referred to her as...you know what, I don't even feel right typing it. But also, me and this girl we're talking about someone who isn't in our class. All she said was "I think she is from afghanistan", and that guy just went (really loudly) "Ugh!" while nodding his head side-to-side /rant _____ It's people like the above that make me hate living somewhere like Texas. I love Texas...but sometimes the people can be the biggest racists I've ever met.

11th Yeah it's natural to find racists amongst that age of teenagers. Alot simpy consider it cool to be racist, they'll grow out of it Yeah, but that guy seemed like the type who picked it up from his parents
It's sad that there are still people that hate others based on the color of their skin, but I don't think there will ever be a world without racism. :(

11th Trascendentalists, are u in a AP course? ignorant people wont go far but just understand that even though his points are stupid you sitll have to respect his opinion no matter how ignorant they are. Be proud your not that kid.

I can understand that you're offended, I'm Mexican myself. But unfortunately you have to realize that you can't change stupid overnight. In his own mind he probably thought he was trying to be funny and edgy. As long as it wasn't directed to you specifically, just let it go and move on.Â

Point of this, what they say shouldn't affect you at all. Also, is this person popular? Did people laugh? Maybe he was trying to be funny. But if he wasn't, his reasons were stupid. And, he's hick and they are he's trash anyway then.

I've heard that go around. I have 2-point-something percent of white people in my entire district (I'm a high school freshman), it really shows something good that I haven't heard much racist comments.

where do you live in texas? just because you meet a couple of rednecks that are racist doesn't mean the majority of texans are racist. i've been all over texas, and i don't have the impression that everyone in texas is racist.Â
i'm indonesian/chinese but more indonesia so my skin color is dark and i hang out with the chinese people... they call me black most of the time i use to be angry when they say that but then i don't really care anymore since if i just stay quite when they tease me then they'll stop
