I'm wondering what everyone here in OT thinks of Euthanasia. I recently had to do a persuasive paper about it in my English class, and I had a hard time picking which side to take. I decided that I was actually for it because I really think that it should be up to the person if they want to live or not.

So what do you guys all think about Euthanasia. Are you for it, or against is. And why?

Yes, youth in Asia seem to be a very promising bunch these days ;) But on a serious note, I am for it as well, as long as all other options have been attempted. I agree it is also the persons choice wether or not they want to live, and if they cant speak for themselves given the situation, immediate family should be given the choice.

EDIT~~ Im skeptical to believe you have actually written this paper yet, and rather wonder if you are trying to get ideas and points from the smart dudes here in OT...thats what I would do atleast...

EDIT EDIT~~ I retract my previous statement...putting your grades, and thus future, in the hands of reckless GameSpot users is probably the worst ideaone could have...

For if the person has a terminal disease and is in intense pain, has little to no chance of survival, and has made a carefully considered, pre meditated decision.

It is worth noting though that a physician who assists a patient in committing suicide may be in violation of the Hippocratic Oath.

I would rather be dead, not being a burden on my family, than lying in a bed in a vegetative state. But it has to be up to the person. It shouldn't be enforced as a standard, but it should be allowed as a personal choice for families if they want it.

I personally dont see it as commiting suicide at all. If I am thinking about euthanasia correctly, which would be deciding to discontinue the assistance to somebody who would otherwise be dead without that assistance, then it would just be dying, not commiting suicide.

im for it, because if i was in a real bad state, where i would only suffer i would rather die... plus it is extremely selfish to keep someone alive suffering probably the biggest pain (and boredom) of their lifes just cuz the family cant let go

your thinking of 'pulling the plug'. this is when someone is living but is in such unbearable pain daily and their right to take their life with the help of a doctor.

Well, if somebody is in intence pain and has no hope of recover, then I think you'd have to be sick to deny their right to die.

For humans?

Providing the person is terminally ill and will only suffer until death and that they sign documents I support euthanasia. Of course I would never support it as a method of suicide, there has to be a good, justifiable, reason.

Completely for it. If anyone wants to end their suffering, they should have all the rights to do so. Under the law, an individuals body is not a gift from God, so they can defile it, or destroy it however they want. Just so long as they have good enough reason and do not harm anyone else in the process.

I believe that one should have the right to end his or her own life, or to request assistance in said process.

I also believe that you would have to be a self-righteous, ass to not support euthanasia.

Im for it, if someone is suffering and ready to go...its their choice, no one elses. thats why it might just be easier to keep a gun, and let the **** that said they we're against it clean up the mess when your long gone.

Sure, I'm for it. If a person has an incurable disease, that is gooing to make the rest of their life unbearably painful, than that person should not have to suffer the rest of their life.

For it. If I want to die, I'm going to kill myself. Nobody should be able to tell me otherwise. Nobody. What are they going to do? Arrest me? The only difference between suicide and euthanasia is whether or not you receive assistance.

If I have a suffering son, daughter, significant other, and I know they want to die, and that's their wish, I should have every right to pull the plug or let them do it.

If there is no known cure for whatever they suffer from, and they are in constant agony, why would I want them to suffer?

I cannot see a logical argument for keeping vegetables alive or keeping those with incurable incredibly pain full diseases/conditions alive against their will.

As long as a person clearly expresses a persistent, sober desire to end their own life, I don't see a problem with them getting assistance to do so. I don't think it's something that needs to be legally formalised because it's probably something that happens all the time anyway without repercussions.

I believe it should only be used when a person has no chance of survival through a serious illness which will cause a very painful death.

I'm for it, as long as there's some kind of proof that the person wished to be killed off in given situation(s). Imo being in a vegetative state is too much of a lost of life to continue.

i think it should be legalised but very strictly regulated and each case should meet very strict criteria before it can be approved.

basicly i think it is a very personal thing which is really up to the person in question and only largely affects them, while i know if someone choses this option they leave people behind but unlike say abortion which - i am against - affects the child in question who has no control of the situation
