I have once in my lifetime I'm pretty sure. It was from a Vietnamese Bahn Mi place.

Pretty sure some kind of bug contaminated the exposed toppings they serve on the roll. (They never have lids covering them.) Extreme stomach cramps + gross stuff that will not be mentioned for an entire week.

I would hate to get Salmonella though.

No, but me and a friend had steak subs at Subway after not going there for about 3 years and were gassy as hell.

Never eating there again.

@Sevenizz: Yeah, I like Subway but wouldn't trust them with most things. Especially meatball subs.

Yup, twice. Once from a hamburger, second from a pizza.

I've broken bones, shattered a tooth, sweated the flu and slid across asphalt, but none of that was as bad as having my intestines recoil inside me. At times I hurt so bad I'd double over and sweat a literal puddle under me in 60 seconds flat. I came close to passing out.

I suspect that I may have on a couple of occasions. But since I didn't see a doctor to get properly diagnosed, I'm not going to say that I did get food poisoning. There's a difference between "may have" and did". I'm generally not too fond of self-diagnoses since I'm not a doctor, and this is even more true when it comes to leveling accusations at people.

But yeah...twice I think I may have gotten food poisoning. And it SUCKED. I quickly went from feeling completely fine to feeling like I was going to die. Stomach twisting into knots, a feeling as if razor blades were passing through me, spewing fluids from every orifice, and just constant sweating. But in both cases, I felt better by morning so I just skipped out on going to a doctor and getting a proper diagnosis.

So yeah...maybe I have and maybe I haven't.

Yup, it was a hamburger left in the fridge to long and BAM, I started vomiting ? and the room was kind of spinning. I’ve gotten quite a few cases similar to that unfortunately.

The funny thing is how FAST it progressed. Like, me feeling completely normal and then only about an hour later spewing fluids all over the place. And how quickly it cleared up. I mentioned that I was considering seeing the doctor the next day. But in one case I felt so much better by morning that I didn't think it was worth shelling out money for a doctor since I was clearly getting better. And in the other case (which was actually worse), I actually felt completely fine by about noon of the next day (aside from being a bit tired and sluggish from having spent the previous night constantly having to get out of bed to expel fluids).

I guess it could have been viral, but I suspect the quickness of it and the short duration of it means that I likely just ate something bad. And that once I flushed all of it out, I recovered quickly.

But again, I don't like to do the self-diagnosis thing. I think it was probably food poisoning, but it could have been anything. Even if it was bacterial, it wasn't necessarily food related. Could have been due to a lapse of proper hygeine when handling money or opening public doors. Or since I also keep reptiles, it could have been a lapse of hygiene with regards to their handling. No way to know. There are so many ways that a person can get sick that it's really hard to narrow down something like "I got sick from eating this food" unless you've got an actual diagnosis of food-related illness as well as multiple accounts of other people getting sick from eating the same thing. I mean, one of the reasons for food products not being recalled until a bunch of people have gotten sick is because it's pretty darn hard to tie down one person's sickness to a specific cause unless there are multiple cases of it. On any given day, there are so many things that COULD make me sick that it's damn hard to tell me what ACTUALLY made me sick. Especially when I haven't even gotten a proper diagnosis on what kind of sickness I even have.

What? Get out of here with that nonsense! The ONLY thing I order at Subway is their meatball sub and I've never had an issue with it.

As far as food poisoning goes, I got it really bad for a week once from some apparently spoiled bologna from the 'fridge, and then a few minor issues over the years. Since the first attack I had learned that plain white rice and yogurt are extremely good friends to your guts during bouts of poisoning so I've never had anything that severe again.

I have gotten sick from food, usually just a 24-hour kind of deal.

A lot of what you guys are describing sounds more like salmonella or something more serious.

Food poisoning is far from fun, but it's usually "OH GOD IT'S COMING OUT OF BOTH ENDS AT THE SAME TIME!" to "Oh, well, I guess I am OK" in less than a day. If you're sick for more than a few days, that's not food poisoning, that's something else (though you could have gotten it from food).

I thought that salmonella was considered an example of food poisoning.

Eh, yes and no, Salmonella is a food-borne illness born from a pathogen. In other words, it's the critter on the food making you sick, and you take on whatever symptoms that critter causes in humans. I.e. e coli, salmonella, etc.

Food poisoning is an acute illness born from toxins produced by the pathogens. In other words, it's the critter's byproduct (toxins) that give you food poisoning, not the critter itself.

It's why eating raw chicken is bad, but cooking it is good. But if you leave that raw chicken out and it goes rancid, cooking it won't do shit because it's filled with chemical compounds that will make you sick.

Right, basically the difference between eating bacteria and bacteria's poop.

I was just under the impression that both were considered "food poisoning" as long as the person gets sick.

Eh, I learn something new every day.

Once. From some KFC. In my experience, you know w/o a doubt if you have/had food poisoning. You're essentially bed bound because of the extreme pain.

Got it a couple of times. Once from Mc Donalds back in the 80's. In the 90's my mom would buy these cheep frozen pizza's from the grocery store. I was shitting and puking at the same time uncontrollably. I tried taking some pempto bismo and it came right back up. My stomach rejected everything for 2 days even water would come back up. It was the last time I ever ate a frozen pizza. To this day I won't eat one.

Maybe once. Last meal I ate in Berlin before heading to the airport and going home. I passed the security check, like took two steps away from the metal detector and puked. Had a quick check by some medics there. They wanted me to spend the night at the hospital. I was not having any of that right before Christmas. Luckily the plane was half full or so and the crew was alerted of my condition. Gave me a couple of extra bags and let me be.

Yes, from Chinese Food. I told my P.E teacher that I felt nauseous. Thankfully he let me sit out of class and later I went home and pooped like 3 times.
