I actually am starting to get into this rapper called K-OS. Why? Because unlike the other idiot rappers, he doesn't need to curse like a sailor, sing about sex, or use a synthesiser for all the music. Makes his music appealing. Of course, I'm still debating on whether to stick with him, but I never thought I'd ever listen to rap. Ever.

Thoughts?

Well maybe if you listen to more rap artists, you'd realize it isn't all cursing and about sex. There are many talented rap artists out there.

As for me it would be death metal also; I used to think it was a disgrace to "real" metal music. How wrong I was:P.

A long time ago I thought rap sucked without even listening to any of it, just cause my friends said so. But over the last years it is has become one of my favorite genres.

Well the problem is that all the stuff I had heard up until this point was... well, cursing and about sex. All the good ones are probably hidden.

Firstly, there's plenty of rappers who don't do that. Secondly, his biggest reason for not cursing about sex and whatever is he is a (IIRC) Jehovah's Witness, and his faith is evident throughout all his music. Also, he's almost as much pop/rock as he is rap (he cites more influences from rock artists than rap).

So this title should really be "How has your music taste changed", huh? It's changed a lot in the past few years actually. I never thought I'd listen to metal, hardcore, country, or some of the more experimental and/or avant-garde stuff I listen to now. I also never thought I'd listen to rap again. Even today, I re-checked out an album by a now-defunct post-hardcore band (At the Drive-In) that a couple years ago I hated when I heard. Same thing with M.I.A. Hated Galang when I first heard it, now it's probably my favourite song off her debut. Even with artists I already loved; e.g. Bob Dylan, I first disliked "Love & Theft" and now I think it's really really great!

He's solid, and yeah, he raps about a variety of things that are often unrelated to the stereotypical rap these days. As for the topic, I gave Aqua a listen way back after Barbie Girl(a pretty bad song) and I still like them, even though I scoffed at them initially.

At The Drive in made really coarse music; tough to get into unless you were acclimated to the intensity of it, but once you were it's easy to see why they were given such acclaim. "Cosmonaut", "Hourglass", "One-Armed Scissor", "Hulahoop Wounds", "Shaking Hand Incision"...all excellent songs. :)

They're no more difficult to get into than, say The Blood Brothers. Also, One Armed Scissor was the only song I liked from them a few years ago. Not the case today, but I still think it's their best. I hated them then because the harshest stuff I listened to back then was... I don't know, Relient K or some crap. :P

True, I'll never say Blood Brothers are easy to get into either XD Ah, Relient K. Good band, I suppose. Kinda mellow, relaxing stuff. Though the bands I look to when I'm wanting that style of music are Fleet Foxes, Timber Timbre and Beirut. :P Relient K kind of fell out of my loop.

Pink Floyd(most of their songs were boring to me at first, but I love them now! :o), Linkin Park, Creed, Skillet, and some metal(liked nu metal, metalcore, and thrash metal the first time I've heard it. :P) are all I can think of, atm.

I love Fleet Foxes. Their eponymous debut was probably my favourite album for last year. Beirut is good stuff too. I keep Relient K in my library due to the nostalgia, mostly. They were back in my Christian Rock phase (which shows how my taste has changed).

I used to hate trance, techno, all that stuff. But I heard the song Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger by Daft Punk one day, and I love Daft Punk now.
