Hope that makes sense.

This happens to me. When I try to go to sleep, sometimes I'll slip into a dream before I even fall asleep. I know I'm awake, because I can feel my cat walking around on the bed trying to position it's self comfortably and I can hear noises from beyond my room. (other animals, usually. I leave my door open so they can come and go as they please.)

There's usually this one point in the dream where I perform a physical action, such as walking, running, etc. Usually, this causes me to jerk some part of my body (which, btw, freaks me the heck out because I don't expect to jerk like that when I'm trying to sleep. Almost gives me a heart attack sometimes.) and the dream just ends. Then I get mad and storm to the computer to make a thread like this. And then I just chill.

So, OT, does any of this ever happen to you?

I dream while driving sometimes. I zone out really easily when I'm bored, and that happens a lot when I drive. Often I'll "snap out of it" randomly while I'm driving and have absolutely no memory of the last 20 miles or so.

I know what you mean, but I only really notice it when I'm in deep pain. This happened a few weeks ago, I kept trying to fall asleep with a headache, but I started dreaming even while I was awake.

This also happens when I jerk my one of my legs or arms to, freaking me out, and when I'm comepletely still on my back asleep but I feel like I'm falling. Crazy, but it's awesome.

Yes. I will be partially dreaming about walking on a side-walk, then stepping off, resulting in me nearly falling out of my bed.

Yeah, it's happens sometimes. I prefer this type of dreaming to normal dreaming, it's usually a great way to pass the time.

You'd never know I was zoned out by the way I was driving. But by the look on my face, sure. I read something about it once... I think it said during boring, ordinary, and predictable experiences (like driving on the highway), your brain reverts to theta waves instead of beta waves.... and during theta you're likely to daydream...

Lucid dreaming is realising you are dreaming and being able to control it. It's not necessarily the same as day dreaming.

Also, there's a condition called Narcolepsy which consists of daytime sleepiness and having no control of when you fall asleep. So you might suddenly nod off in the middle of work or something and it usually involved memory loss when you wake up.

Also, you might all want to check out a film called Waking Life by Richard Linklater. Its all about the philosophy of dreams and being able to be conscious of them.

This happens to me when I'm on the train. I'll be zoned out for quite a while then see something and realise my stop is coming up, but I won't recall the rest of the journey at all.

At OP: I have the same thing too, which often ends with the violent jerking and waking myself up. I like when it happens when I'm listening to music because (and this sounds really lame) I can kind of feel the music as I'm falling asleep and it's a really nice/fun way to listen to music.
