I used to love this show, it was my favorite part about Sundays ten years ago. If you've never heard of the show, the name pretty much says it all. Two robots enter an arena and fight to the death, and there are other hazards around the arena they could use to their advantage. I also watched Battlebots. Ah yes, good times...

Of course, it did use to be quite good.. Would of loved to be on it, always dreamed of it, making plans with friends to enter.. and then releasing we were teenagers.. that we had no technology, brains or materials to construct anything

I know, eh? I had the same dream at one time. :o Unfortunately, to this day I still wouldn't have the brains, the time, or the money to build a robot, let alone all of the practice it would take to actually be competitive.

No, I haven't. I remember seeing spin-offs of it on other shows, but most of them weren't very well done, or made it look overly nerdy (though it certainly is, but people don't need to know it  ). I should search that one up sometime.

Yep. I used to love it as a kid. They've been airing repeats of the old series recently on Dave (a TV channel in the UK) that I've been watching religiously.

Battlebots was better because they didn't have those super OP robots that ran out and randomly obliterated the competing robots.

I agree with you there; it was really cheap how sometimes they randomly came out of their corners and picked on the robot that was winning for not apparent reason, and that would be really frustrating as a competitor or as a fan of that certain robot. When they were used as strategy to push the other into the corner, that was alright as long as it didn't completely take it out of contention. It made me feel sorry for the builders sometimes; it takes thousands of dollars to build those robots, and they often plan on entering them in multiple competitions, so it's really cheap when they spend two minutes after the match smashing the loser, and dropping washing machines on them. :| Just drop them in the pit and be done with it.

Oh man that show brings back memories. I remember there was this little robot that could only flip other bots and that was it, i think it was called tornado or hurricane or something. Took them ages to get him down and out. They also had these bad ass 'house-bots' i think they were called that sat in each corner. My fav was the one with the claw and the flamethrower, Sgt Bash was his name. God that was a good show.

I used to love it when I was younger, though after series 4 or 5 it started to get boring. Partially because the top rank was dominated by the same few robots

/\ Yeah, Razor was the best, it could have easily been a house bot. But to answer TC's question, yes, I used to watch it every week. My cousin and I even attached forks on our RC cars pretending to be in robot wars lol.

Possibly one of the coolest television shows around back then.
I remember how crushed the losing robot's creators would look after having their creation mutilated beyond repair.
Good times.

Check out what I just found...

Battlebots1.jpg picture by MudkipMaster30

These are all from the Battlebots series, not Hot Wheels, but that makes me ponder if they made miniatures for Robot Wars too. At one point McDonalds had BattleBots as the toy in Happy Meals; I got every single one. Out of all of them, this one was definitely my favorite.

In real life it doesn't have that hump where the wind-up engine is. It's low to the ground so you couldn't get under it, and it used its arm to flip over its opponents. It wouldn't have done nearly as well as it did without its driver though, who was an awesome driver.
