And I wasn't even alive then. At least I experienced growing up in the 90's the last great decade.

The music, the films, the fashion :P the games, the tv shows and I bet the prices for things was much more fair. The list goes on.

All my favourite films, bands and songs were made in the 80s.

Anyone else feel you should have born mid-sixties to live through the 80s as 20 year olds?

The 80s were the golden ages of rock, imo.

Makes me wish I was born in the late 60s/early 70s so that I could see everything live.

Honestly, I bet watching Queen live at Wembley Stadium would've been a helluva experience. Guns N Roses before they became ****, Skid Row before they kicked Bach out.

The 1920's were clearly the best years in the whole world. Everybody wore three-piece suits, even the homeless, dancing involved nothing more than holding a woman's hand near your shoulder and walking, revitalising health tonics sweeped the nation and the music industry created such classics as "Dee dooo.... dee dooooo" or "Ba-dum (tiddle-tee-dee) ba dum (tiddle de do!)"

*wipes a tear from his eyes* Good times.

Oh. 80s metal I'd go with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal that started roughly the late 70s and influenced American metal. Bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Megadeth etc were popular in the 80s. Not so much the Motley Crues, Poisons etc.

True, but hair metal could be classed under hard rock in the "Glam" category. I would put GnR/Poison under rock rather than metal, mainly because they release power ballads and whatnot... not very metalish. :P I categorize with a combination of sound and lyrics. Very very rarely are there [m]any metal songs with lovey-dovey lyrics. That's usually the territory of rock.

I believe he was referring to the years 80-89 AD. Those were some wild years. As they say, if you remember them, you weren't there.

Internet, Cell phones that aren't the size of air jordans, and a much wider selection of music are the only things that make me glad I'm where I am right now.

Really? But I don't really remember any power ballads from Iron Maiden, Metallica and whatnot. Having said that though, I consider Def Leppard (I know they're British) hard rock rather than metal (even though they were considered part of the New Wave of British Metal).

Yah, no. I lived through 80s in my 20s and almost nothing about the 80s was better than now.

Not foreign affairs.

Not the economy.

Not technology.

Not fashion.

Not music.

Yeah I'm sure not living in that decade makes you an unbiased source on how great it is. The threat of nuclear war, lack of internet, cheesy tv and music accompanying all those "great" things you mention? Not a problem apparently.

So yeah TC, it wasn't better, and especially if you didn't live then. Years from now you'll hear the same thing about the 2000's and how awesome Green Day and Call of Duty was.

I have to say, 90's takes the cake with cartoons. But for popular music, 80's wins. That's not to say that I don't like my obscure '00s metalcore. But the music that the majority of people listened to in the '80s was great.

I guess many here are unaware that many in the 80s didn't appreciate it at the time and, like the 70s, thought that music generally sucked. Only in retrospect did many (not all, I grant) come to appreciate it. So chances are, if you were there in real time TC, you wouldn't have held it as a golden era like you apparently do now.
