So I was reading this thread, and alot of the responses we something about the Mac being better for business, or video/audio editing, or picture editing. No one had a straight answer. As a matter of fact, most people who dislike Macs dislike the company more than the product itself. There would never be this much hate if Apple products were just as affordable as a PC. I see nothing wrong with a Mac, they are just too expensive. If I had the money, I would without a doubt, buyone.

Well I like to play games on my PC and games are more readily available for the PC than a Mac. Hence my apprehension in switching and my main reason for sticking with PC.

You kind of flip-flopped, there... Are you arguing that Macs aren't good...? Or are you saying they're too expensive...?dreDREb13
Basically I am asking why you would or would not want a mac.

I have no idea how macs are better, or how people prefer them.

Notebooks starting at prices much cheaper are better than macbooks, and the only thing that stands out is battery life, but that is obvious, since the mac has so little to offer anyways.

So if you had the money to buy either a mac or aa higher spec Windows box you'ld take the mac? 1. Macs are more expensive 2. Relatively closed platform 3. Lack of software support 4. Inability to tweak and modify 5. Lower top specs

Macs are better for two three. The first is that they are based on unix, which no matter what way you look at it, is faster, more secure and more stable than windows. Second, apple controls all of the hardware, so you don't get compatibly issues with the hardware. Last, you can easily install windows on mac, but installing mac on a pc is a little harder and a lot less legal.

but Macs are more expensive. They are also less customizable.

A few other things that are a matter of opinion:

Mac has a better user interface.

Windows has better (and more) programs.

Mac has better support (at least if you are close to an apple store)

but to be honest, I like Linux far more than either Mac or Windows.

I don't get all the hate for Mac OSX, it's a fine OS, I mean I don't prefer it over Winodws, the GUI just isn't my thing. The desktops do look pretty, they are a viable option, it's just that I don't like most Mac users.

I am a recent Mac convert. And the first thing I can tell you is THIS THING IS AWESOME. It's not so much about the power on paper, but how it actually performs. I got the macbook and it is far studier, all around easier to use, has longer battery life and last but not least the TRACKPAD. I think that mac has the best laptop hands down. Im no computer guru but I have a desktop and I play PC games on that, and this macbook would be able to do anything that my pc would do. Hope this helps?

Please do explain how installing Windows on a Mac, but not being able to install Mac OSX on a PC is a pro for owning a Mac. Please, please explain to me how this matters whatsoever.dreDREb13
If you need to use windows for running programs (Solidworks for example) on you mac it is easy. If you need to run Final Cut or something and you have a PC, you are basically out of luck.

Yes. It does everything I want it to, and I'm satisfied.

Pay more for more or less outdated hardware at an insanely high price with an os that cant game.

Apple has been making money off people that find it difficult to use two buttons for as long as i can remember.

Also mac fans will say we can bootcamp to play games. That right there states that the os is inferior...

I can build the best possible Mac's PC counterpart for under a quarter of the price when it comes to desktop PCs.

When you buy a Mac, you're essentally wasting your money unless you're really into video editing (which is the one thing Mac can edge out PC with due to exclusive software).

Well, this analogy might explain. Mac's are to PC's as Console gaming is to PC gaming.

not being able to install Mac OSX on a PCdreDREb13

But you can (actually, I'm pretty sure it's easier than ever with Snow Leopard), it just violates the OS X licensing agreement. You can do it in a virtual machine, even.

It's just that there's really no point. Installing Windows on a Mac, on the other hand, is quite useful.

You could, but it is better (ie a "Pro") to have the option to use any software instead of being limited to software only on windows.

This comes down to preference of user though. I could go run Cakewalk on a PC, but I CHOOSE to use Logic on a Mac. Theres ups and downs to each.

Macs use the same hardware as PCs now that they're intel based, run a much less functional OS, and cost two to three times as much as a comparable PC.

People buy them because they're cleverly marketed and they don't know any better.

Macs are not better at ANYTHING, whether it be photo editing or whatever, It may be easier on a Mac which would lead some people to believe it's superior to whatever PC has to offer, but the truth is there is software available on PC to beat anything Mac has to offer.
