I think you answered your own question. Kids hate school, but their school spirit is mostly governed by showing up their 'rival' schools, and showing class for their home team just cause it's their home team. School spirit was BS though when I was in highschool. All our sports teams except the girls' basketball team sucked, basically we were the lowest rated school in the county, and yeah.
School spirit, for me, was about community. We were in the same school for six years. That's six years with the same 180 people day-in, day-out. It wasn't necessarily about the classes, or the sport teams, or the buildings, it was the relationship we all had together. I left at the end of 2008 and still keep in contact with most of my group there. If I see anyone from my old school we always talk and catch up.
School spirit is nothing if you are a "loner", so to speak, but when you have a great school where the singers have just as much respect as the footballers, then you are bound to have great communal feelings.
That may be it. I'm in a class of 660, 600 of which are a bunch of posers. I have a friend that used to go to a small school and had school spirit, but now he doesn't because he's in my school. I guess in order to have school spirit you have to like the community.School spirit, for me, was about community. We were in the same school for six years. Are you calling me an emo kid that tries hard to not conform? I am myself and I do what I want. It's just something else for emo kids to try hard at not conforming to.

Our school was quite a large school for the area. However everyone knew that the school was a whole lot better then the others. It was an all-boys school, and we ranked third (academically) out of the twelve schools in the area, just behind the selective school and all-girls school.
We were also very good at all areas. A group of about 200 students sung the national anthem at the State of Origin (TV audience of 2.5 million people, equivalent of a US programme rating nearly 40 million). We always have students ranking in the top three in the state for specific subjects, and our sports teams are some of the best in the state.

If you like that kind of stuff, fine. But I wear plain white t-shirts every other day (black tee's the rest of the time) with black basketball shorts and plain Vans. I listen to rock and metal. I play videogames all day and sometimes hang out with my two best friends. And I love every bit of it.[QUOTE="haggard_korn"][QUOTE="AWildMeowth"] So apparently you are one of those people who DOES try to conform. You're worse than the nonconformists.AWildMeowth

High school is a joke difficulty wise. If you don't plan on doing well, then it's not even much of a hassle.school spirit is gay and anyone who has it needs to die a horrible death i dont know how anyone could like anything related to school except seeing friends and chicks but other than thattheres nothing good about it and it isn't worth going for just those things and i dont need to know math for the military i don't get why they made it a requirement to finish highschool to join the military it didn't do any use for me half the stuff they teach you is brainwashing/pointless. just get out of it alive and dont get any school spirit thats just wrong.

Okay, 'dude' has had a long enough run. It's time to lay him to rest.I came from a secondary school that had no school spirit, it was quite vicious. Now I don't want to start typing out one of those stories to make it sound like I was hard done by and "came from the bronx" no it was not like that. It was just the way it treated, it was class of XXXX it was when the UK education was in a bit of a **** state and Labor party where just about to give it a kick in the butt to improve things. And improve things they did, but it only happaned for the generation after mine.
For me school spirit was no such word. Our classes put us down to the pace of the slowest, it neglected the lower set groups considering them "hopeless" and gave them nothing but a text book to copy from, banning them from Drama and gymnastic classes or taking part in the sports teams because they were too stupid and distruptive to become anything anyway so it was a waste of time (was the way they seen it). All resources were pulled into the top 5 groups, the rest were on their own.

It's that thing feeling of pride that adults want you to have so you can say no to drugs, stay in school, always try your hardest, always recycle, assimilate, never ask questions that aren't normal, keep your nose clean, Follow your parents' dream of being a sccesful doctor/lawyer, scoff at difference, follow the pack, listen to the elite, buy into their hypocritic morals, never search the meaning of life, as monetary gain is all you need to be happy....and such.
