What's more, Religion itself is crap. Humans are scared of what they don't understand. Humans created Religion as a means of understanding natural occurances such as plague, famine, storms, wildfires, eclispses, stars, the sky, clouds, time - anything that could be misinterpeted thousands of years ago was bundled into the 'I don't understand this' tray, and over time people made up what were fundamentally flawed interpretations of these phenomena and these coagulated into a single beleif - that there is a higher being that created all these things. Simply put, humans made up God, much like a child will make up an invisible friend to help them understand things.

It's no coincidence that religious beleif has faltered over the last 200 hundred years. Technology has advanced, and time and time again, we have debunked Biblical tales as being just that - stories. Now that we have a different means of understanding the universe, we no longer require religion to make us feel ok. Religion has become, or is in the least becoming, obsolete as our understanding increases.

Steam power became obsolete as our understanding of mobility, chemical-kinetic energy and physics increased, and now our understanding of everything on a macro scale is advancing, religion is becoming obsolete. Religion is a metaphoric steam engine. Once it sufficed, but now we have no need for it.

[QUOTE="Fireball2500"]As for me, I found out recently why I believe God exists. Recently I thought that maybe Christians are brainwashed, and I didn't pray for a few days. Every night I felt guilty for not praying every night, and this Sunday I started to pray to God again. I found out that now, I believe in God because I feel empty without God.kalossimitar

Ahahahahahha, no you dont, you felt GUILTY, not EMPTY, and why, would you say? Because of social control. Why do you think you feel gilty when stealing something, even if its from a rich guy? Because of social control. Youre raised and educated by the State. The State is the greatest "crowd control" mechanism existing. How did you learn to raise your hand in class to ask a question? Why do you feel like someone speaking without raising it is impolite? The only reason you feel guilty is because youve been teached to feel that way, your parents must have been christians, or you went to a christian school, something like that, it can be more complex than just that too, like your friends, your work environment, all those things are crowd control mechanism and socialisation instruments.

Its difficult to go against what youve been teached, but try it, itll pay, I can garantee it, criticism is the best thing there is, with it, you feel more free that by believing blindly everything people say to you, and please, PLEASE, dont say you arent following blindly to be christians, theres no big chances youre Christian onlysincea year ago, the chances are good youve been raised as one from the day you were born...

You think I've been a Christian all my life? I'm 15, and have been a Christian for 3 and a half years. I'm not brainwashed, and I had many things to enjoy in that period of time I didn't pray, like PGR4(a really sweet racing game), YouTube, and having a good schoolyear so far(I'm homeschooled, that's why I'm typing right now.) What I'm trying to say, I'm not brainwashed like what I'm getting you're saying.

I don't think you can scientifically prove the existence of god. That's kind of the basis of faith.

why do i think he doesnt exist? well, look around you kid... wars, suffering, terrorism... what kind of God that suposedly created universe, mankind, earth or whatever he did, would allow all this?! ... everytime i see the news all i see is "50 people died today in Iraq as a result of a suicide attack"... and that's just a example... i once believed in God, someone who had created the world... but that was when i was naive... didnt know crap about the world outside... until i opened my eyes, and start thinking logically and by myself... there is no God... not when there's a world like this...

Maybe I'm insecure, but I hate taking things on faith. That's why I love math, like science, tolerate history, and hate literature.

I just think there has to be a way the universe was created

I imagine it like a box. if i put 2 rats in there, what will happen? more life will be created. If i don't put anything in that box, will anything be created? no. there has to be some sort of life before to make more, and that life before is god. I dunno really how to explain it but thats my way of thinking

mtcoola

But if everything needs to be created so does the creator, but if the creator can be eternal how come the universe cannot be.

You can't win with that agruement.

i think that the human body is too much of an accomplishment to just, "bang", be here. from the eyes to the heart, which runs like a battery for 70+ years on nothing but a red liquid, that's pretty amazing. yes, i believe in god, it makes the most sense out of everything else i've heard.

" i believe in christianity as i believe that the sun has risen, not only because i see it, but by it i see everything else."

C.S. Lewis

thatpunk

You don't KNOW that though, you're saying the human body is too complex, how do you know what too complex is?

who ever said it was? Mistakes are something that humans do, the universe can't make mistakes, it just is. It has no intentions, it has to goals, dreams, or plans. I believe you mean that it was all "by chance". I personally think it would be really weird if life (and therefore intelligent life, thanks to evolution) didn't spring up in such a realy freakin' huge place. I don't think you realize just how massive this place is.

Then there's the whole monkey issue, dude there is no way that humans came from a monkey, how can an educated person even think that.

Do you not seem to remember God destroying the entire human race except for Moses and family?

Oh, come on, thats low, its just some kind of metaphor about....something.......God is for evolution, God loves Atheists, God is forgetful, all of that is in the Bible......just gotta interpret it differently from the hundreds of different interpretations already existing......

Yeah, the hard reality that not everything is made out of chocolate fountains or wild lolipops running around. At least, you opened your eyes, thats great, man.

BTW, could someone explain to me how believing in God is different from believing in Santa claus or in the tooth fairy?? Anyone older than 13 yesrs old still believing in Santa claus is classified as a retarded, then, why the hell do people believing in a bearded entity that created the universe, without being created himself, in seven days arent looked at much more as retarded as they are already...????

i believe god exists, but in the back of my head i wonder if believing in him just makes us no afraid of death. because thinking that our "soul" is just a made-up word for our different characteristics and that when we die...there's nothing after it....we just cease to exist, thinking that scares the poo outta me...which is why im glad i believe in god, there's something good after death

God has pro benevolence.

I'm pretty sure that The Bible states that people who don't believe in the Christian/Jewish/whatever god don't have a pleasant afterlife...which totally undermines the 'benevolent god' theory.

I mean, wouldn't a Bhuddist, Muslim or Atheist person go to hell (according to the Bible, which I'm definitely not an expert on), purely because God allowed/forced them to join another religion (by 'forced', I mean that some believe that it is god's will that some people live or die - thus god 'forced' them to be born in a non-Christian/Jewish/whatever community).

Because everyone else says he's around but can't explain it. The logic is flawless!Yagami-Iori

hahaa, so true :p

I dont wanna say he dosnt exist, because we havnt explored pretty much any of what is maybe an infinatly expanding universe, who knows whats out there. I think if he does exist, it wont have anything to do with the christian bible we know of now. In my opinion most if not all of that was made up so that the people who run the church could have power and control. They used to drown women they thought were witches because they thought if they floated they were innocent for gods sake. At the time the bible was written and for hunderds of years after people would believe anything because they didnt know any better. No offence meant to any deeply religious person here.

One thing that irks me about "God" is that he speaks in the bible about being humble but then if you look through the bible, all it's about is worshipping him and sacrificing things for him. It's all wars and pain in his name. It's disgusting. He seems to be VERY self-centered.
_Marisa_

I agree. What kind of egotistical entity is "god" when he commands those of his creation to worship him like some idol. He's fricking omnipotent as it is and knows it, and should be more than enough.

Also, how can "god" be for the poor and seek to aid those in poverty when the ones in churches especially in Rome live in palace-like monasteries.

Some things in the bible are pretty retarded as well.

just to throw out some questions and see what you come up with

Alright first question is why do we have a seven day week?

Second why do we have marriage?

Third why do we have a conscience?

The last is why do we die?

Well: the 7 day week in the west atleast, evovled from early christians celebrating the jewish holiday of sabbath(saterday) and the first day (sunday).

Marriage is a made up serimony, conieved through religion.

We have a conscience (morals?) because of the way we were raised.

We die because our bodies grow old and the cells begin to die.

there you go! :) although non of those things prove that god exists or dosnt.

I am scared by some American Christians now (despite thembeing very very funny too). That Louis Theroux thing on the most hated family in America. "Jews worship the rectum. That's a fact!", terrifyingly stupid but ut's funny to laugh at them.

I think god exists in their minds, because they believe. Just like centuries agosorceryexisted in their minds because they believed is was real.

I guess ifa person werea schizophrenic in their deluded mind anythingwould bereal. Itwouldn't be tangible but fromtheir perception itwould bereal. It would benon-existent totheir body the peopleand the world aroundthem butduring their hallucinations it's all real.
