What's more, Religion itself is crap. Humans are scared of what they don't understand. Humans created Religion as a means of understanding natural occurances such as plague, famine, storms, wildfires, eclispses, stars, the sky, clouds, time - anything that could be misinterpeted thousands of years ago was bundled into the 'I don't understand this' tray, and over time people made up what were fundamentally flawed interpretations of these phenomena and these coagulated into a single beleif - that there is a higher being that created all these things. Simply put, humans made up God, much like a child will make up an invisible friend to help them understand things.
It's no coincidence that religious beleif has faltered over the last 200 hundred years. Technology has advanced, and time and time again, we have debunked Biblical tales as being just that - stories. Now that we have a different means of understanding the universe, we no longer require religion to make us feel ok. Religion has become, or is in the least becoming, obsolete as our understanding increases.
Steam power became obsolete as our understanding of mobility, chemical-kinetic energy and physics increased, and now our understanding of everything on a macro scale is advancing, religion is becoming obsolete. Religion is a metaphoric steam engine. Once it sufficed, but now we have no need for it.
