anyone here suffer from that? i'm typing this thread as i finish my homework due in 2 hours which was assigned 7 days ago. but its not just doing homework the night before, i literally went to sleep and set my alarm to 4 hours before class so i would wake up have time to do it.

the only way i could get any worse is if i did the homework during class and turned it in at the end. but i hope it never comes to that, though i've been close (doing homework thats due right outside class minutes before entering)

also, does anyone know of any cures for this? some motivational lines? maybe a trick to get yourself to do homework early? i wish i could do homework the second it was assigned, that would relieve so much stress every time you hear due dates just because you know you already finished.

btw i'm 22 and a senior at my university, i hope i get rid of this habit soon cuz it sure won't help when im out in the real world

procrastination stems from not wanting to do what you are assigned and not caring that much about the repurcussions. If you are in the real world and you either A-Really enjoy what you are doing or B-Not doing what you are asked will cost you your job or decrease your paycheck, you will feel motivated

Every uni student procrastinates, im sure if it was a subject we would all fail because we would always tell ourselves that we would finish the work tomorrow

Hmmm did you say you wake up and do the homework before you go to school? I would suggest you do it before you go to bed, which would still be procrastination but it will help get you in the right track towards fixing procrastination. It's an important step because you teach your mind that even under extreme inattention and a lack of responsibility you've accumulated throughout the day, you are able to get down to business in such an unhealthy mindset. I often look for inspirational quotes and such to get down to business as well, but I've realized whats most important is reaching deep down in that part of your mind that thinks clearly that people like me and you have shoved away to a point that seems so powerless.

In other words, forget about ANYTHING that you WANT to do and become selfless at least for that moment. Once you eliminate all DESIRE can you achieve greatness.

Hows that for an inspirational quote?

okay the whole greatness thing sounds so obscure and ridiculous, and by desire, I mean what you find soooo stimulating outside of studying that really has little to no importance towards becoming a more complete and responsible person. We are like dogs, we like responsibility in that it keeps us balanced and complete yet we are addicted to instability and randomness.

Yeah, I have a paper on Japanese poetry due tomorrow (hate that she picked me as one of the first few to present) and typing this 5 page paper right now. After that, I have to type up a paper on the Nanking Massacre and that has to be 5 pages long so I am dedicating my day after class on Tuesday to do it.

Sorry, I don't know how to help you. I can't even help myself...

Think of your homework as a sort of game. Say you finish your assignment 16 hours before the deadline. You've just earned yourself 16 points. Every time you have an assignment you should make it a goal to beat that point total. Keep repeating this until you have reached a max possible score for yourself. After that, keep working to one day better your previous record.

I've had 2 weeks to code this RPG that I haven't started yet... I also have three papers and a final presentation due wednesday... I have a project and several diagrams and 3 1 page papers due tonight... I haven't started on any of this... It's so hard to keep fighting strong in my last 2 weeks of college...

you sounded like a buddhist right there haha with the eliminating desire and all but you know that could work, i told myself to stop doing what i wanted to do and to do what i had to do and it kinda worked for a few seconds its a start!

I do procrastinate a little but never to an extreme extent, I'll start to feel guilty and do the work.

No. I was tempted to procrastinate in my first year or two of college, but I countered by developing a taste for early completion of projects. It reduced my stress levels, and so I eventually ended up working on assignments as far in advance as I could.

I start most of my work a bit early because I know I'm not going to be motivated to sit down a do a whole bunch of it a day or two before something is due.
