Since my last thread was locked because I didn't make it clear enough, i'll ask differently :p

I don't want to go offline so please don't suggest that, I want to stay online but not have the window switch to facebook when someone talks to me

Previous post>>

In relation to Facebook Chat.

When one of my friends sends me a chat message, the web page flicks straight to the active Facebook page. I want to turn it off, but how??

E.G. I'll have Facebook open in a window but am currently browsing Gamespot in a seperate window. I recieve a message on Facebook and the page switches to it :/

IT'S HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES WRITING THIS OUT! I keep confusing people by sending them sections of this post, arghh!

I have the opposite problem.. Facebook doesn't let me know I've received a chat message except for the tab header changing slowly every second or so, which isn't noticeable unless I'm looking directly at it. The small 'pop' sound cannot be heard over general background noise either, unless I turn my speakers right up. I hate Facebook chat with a passion but some people only use that, and it's one of the only ways to contact these people.

Sounds like a javascript issue to me, not sure if disabling javascript would disable Facebook chat or not... You could try that to start. If you're using Firefox, then there may be a plugin that allows you to disable certain scripts.

It seems you don't have a good java script. You should install the java plug in if you haven't done so.

You could try ditching the web interface and using a desktop application like Pidgin to do your Facebook chat.

There's always the option of using Web IM's such as meebo.com yes, they are some web IM's that support facebook chats.

If you guys aren't using Macs, you could always try using Raptr's chat client.
