Someone in GameSpot doesn't want people commenting on controversial topics. Not the only time I've seen this happen. I think they just don't want the mods' wasting their time dealing with reports that stem from troll comments.

If GS can't handle the comment section, then they shouldn't be posting anything that's Political stuff or SJW news at all!

This is a Gaming site, not Tabloid site.

Yeah, I really am not a fan of publications that present articles and deny their readers the opportunity to discuss. I get the fact that they dislike negative comments, but then simply don't publish articles you know are going to generate those comments. Freedom of Speech is a right that isn't afforded on a private website, but I firmly believe that it's just as important to express on said websites. Censorship should really be discouraged at every turn, and GameSpot is promoting it instead.

Who at Gamespot decides which articles are available for comment and which aren't?

On what basis are they making that decision?

Is there an undisclosed political stance?

Well, I noticed it happened again on an article they posted today about celebrating women in gaming, so I figured I was going to leave some feedback when I came across this thread. So according to angerawr, any controversial topic that has a remote chance of generating toxic replies gets immediately locked.

But back to that article I saw, nothing says, "Hey, let's celebrate women in gaming!" better than ..... not allowing you to talk about it. :|

Gamespot learned from their fiasco with Feedbackula and someone higher up decided to not enable the trolls. Is my guess.

Man, I had completely forgot about that stain in their "programming"...the amount of crap the mods had to deal with because Johnny thought it was hilarious to mock stupid people pissed me off so much. Then of course you had the attention seekers spamming ridiculous crap in hopes of being part of next week's show...all around terrible idea just because the staff wanted to defend themselves but didn't want to start mud-flinging with the users directly.

No offense, but I can't really see the point in promoting women in gaming. Shouldn't it be automatic that anyone, Male or Female, straight or gay, can play the games they enjoy.

:( This sounds like they're setting up another echo chamber based on gender! What if there are more men interested in these jobs than women? You never have an equal amount of men and women applying to a job. This reeks of misandry.... What if there's a man being mistreated on the workfloor? They can't join because of their gender?

Where is the proof that there is a big gap in diversity?! What on Earth is this based on?

Oh that makes me so angry... Why be so exclusive? Why exclude people based on gender? If it's a place to talk about problems at work then let all people talk about it. Is it normal to have such a thing for only white or black people? Not in my country... It's just so evil, it makes me real angry. Telling people they can't work somewhere because they have the wrong gender? Stop being so sexist! Please stop it! That's the worst solution I could think of. To use sexism to stop sexism. Just stop it!

Ugh well if this is somehow necessary then whatever. Sure. I can't do much about it. I just prefer seeing solutions that are not gender exclusive. That would be much better at stopping this prejudice and hate between men and women. We're all people who get into trouble, and especially from support groups and aid/care it would be great if they didn't exclude people based on a statistic or a prejudice they are born into that may not hold true in their case.

I'm pretty sure Gamespot actually has contempt for their audience, woman or no woman, since 90% of the time they are being criticized. In this case they have to protect the womans, and gamers from themselves.

You'd like to think the title would be "women launch campaign on Facebook to promote women in gaming".

I am 110% for gender equality, but I won't force the issue. And I especially won't support anything that creates an imbalance or takes jobs away from people that deserve it "just because".

Upon further reading, I am a little disappointed in the women they chose to highlight; one seems to be a public speaker (Romero) that focuses on the intellectual aspects of non-digital games, while two women are in management (CEO and brand manager) positions and not really in game development. Where are the level designers, coders, modelers, writers? The "creatives"?

Yes, lets promote women in gaming by preventing gamers to talk about them. Great idea GS! Also when it comes to core gamers the number is NOT 50/50 but more like 20% women and 80% men so it seems natural and logical that more men than women creates games. But let's promote vagina because vagina is the most important thing when coding a video game because of.......reasons.

@LJS9502_basic:

You mean GS wants to avoid people that speak the truth...... I think you're right. But why would it matter to GS as long as there are no threats or blatantly derogatory statements in the comment?
