Damn this is the saddest thing ever...

Computer Science major, I have taken all the electives, and all the core classes.... EXCEPT the last core class, I failed it twice. I should have gotten a 2.0 in every CS class in order to graduate, but firs time I got a 1.7 and second time 1.8. I have 200 credits.

GPA is 3.1

So what the hell am I supposed to do ? I could only retake the class ONCE!

It depends. I think at some universities the limit is three fails. And even then, you get get the permission from a dean to take it again.

Also, how on earth to you fail a CORE class? Seriously.

Speak to your student counselor. You can't be the first person in this situation. Apply yourself and get it done.

I know the university system is thoroughly idiotic but I have trouble imagining a system in which messing up a couple times on a single course automatically leads to your past 4-5 years of work towards the degree being wasted.

How come you guys grade yourselves 1-4 or whatever it is, rather than using a percentage based system? To an outsider, a 1.8 means absolutely nuffin.

I like our system, except I found it rather unfair that a science major could achieve 100 whereas an arts major couldn't touch a 90 without being Socrates reincarnated. And even then...

I would say that if you can get a retake, then that core class should be your priority class, keep other classes to a minimum and if you must take a certain number of other classes, take ones that are easy so you can focus most of your time and attention on that core class.

Failing the same core class twice damn I can't think of a worse college nightmare. I'm intrigued now which course is it?

At any rate don't panic, its not like they're going to deprive you of your degree because of that last class you can't seem to pass. Is it possible at all to speak to the class' lecturer? Or maybe student counseling? I'm pretty sure there is some division in your faculty under which jurisdiction this falls. But honestly, that was a dick move to fail you twice in the same course when you're so close to graduation. Don't give in I'm sure there's something you can do that won't claim a whole semester from your life.

@organic_machine: I know a lot of people who have, personal life can outweigh school sometimes. Im sure you can retake it, email your advisor or your department head. You might be able to take the clas by itselfin the summer. Also your gpa is not that bad, especially if you dont plan on grad school. I just try to keep a 3.5 lol.

You should probably be approaching the faculty, and not talking to us.

And how did you fail? Did you not understand what was going on, or were you being lazy and not finishing the homework? Because if the former, I'm sure they'll give you another chance, but the latter, you might be fucked.

Talk to the dean of your college department. If that individual does not agree, go over their level of authority to the president of your university or college.

@mjorh: The average grade you make in a class. If a test is out of 100 and you get a 93, your grade is 93%. If your grades keep averaging around there, you have a 93% average which is an A.

You should talk to your guidance counselor, but im pretty certain you shouldn't have any issues. At the very worst, you should be able to retake the class. The not so flattering grade you have will remain and be calculated as part of your GPA.

screw the gpa system. some classes r just fluffers. like waste and environmental management in a civil degree. who cares if u got a 50 or 60 in that stupid thing as long as u got 70-80 in structural, materials, ect.

I failed a class twice. The third time I quite literally aced the class and I've been fine ever since. In fact, I got accepted into a university afterward (I was at community college).

out of 100. It's 0 to 100.

If you had a 4 question quiz, and got three right, youd get a 75%
