Do you think that if not for WW2, Fascism would be a legitiment government archtype in today's world? That's not to say it's a good idea, or it would be a popular one, but do you think that if Hitler hadn't invaded poland then by using Germany's turn from economic depression to world superpower give it a legitimate political sway over other nations?

I cant say it would have more sway than Communism, which isn't that much as it only works in two countries. Fascism requires the same sort of nationalist sentiment in order to exist, and there really isn't enough dire conflict in the world to fuel that sort of thing. Also, fascism invariably goes to war, as one of its primary aspects is an expansionist campaign, so to ask if it would be legitimate without WW2 is to ask if Capitalism would be viable without a market.

It won't work. Policies oriented around hate will never last and eventually will destroy themselves and their creators. Ironically, hatred against the haters will be the drive that brings forth their guaranteed doom.

Ugly Shirt

Citizens of fascist nations might as well wear these ugly shirts - not that they have a choice though. ;)

(By the way, I am writing a blog post draft concerning fascisms of the sort that digital game consumers can relate to. And no, I don't use the term "gamers" to refer to "digital game consumers". It has become an ugly phrase that the media uses to lampoon their chosen past-time.)

That's odd. I often found that a common enemy unites people more than it divides them. That is essentially how hitler revived germany, he made a group the public enemy and set the people in motion to get rid of said enemy.

I don't think fascism would fall without war. The essence of it is simply that people are too ineffective to govern themselves so they need administering bodies to run the masses. We inevitably see that in a more modern environment.

Hard to say. I would like to say it would have fallen eventually because it was during a time when the world was more vigilant and passionate. I couldn't imagine it happening in the U.S because we are pro sovereignty and much more so back then than we are now. Sovereignty should be the most important aspect of government in the curriculum, but it seems they teach allegiance to the Federal Government is more important than allegiance to county & State.

Franco led Spain with his brand of Fascism from the 1930s till his death in the 1970s. Spain was one of the signatories of the anti-Comintern pact. Under Franco, the country dealt fiercely with Basque separatists. However, in the end, the Spanish people reinstated the monarchy and went on to draft a constitution in the 1970s. Just more evidence that Fascism cannot sustain a nation.

I was under the impression that a fascist government only existed for the sole purpose of war?.......

okay, hers the thing with Fascism: there is no clear definition.

One could be of an authoritarian state that attempts to make a perfect state. Which is what was attempted with the fascist states such as Nazi germany and Mussolini's Italy by use of social eugenics hitler imprisoned/killed many tens of thousands of retards/real idiots before he even got to jews.) These might laos include the banning of drugs, such as tobacco (first done in those fascist states.) In 1939 Hitler was Time's man of the year because the Nazi party's "progressive" social developments were able to reform germany socially, politically and economically. Enough to be able to mobilise a flexible and strong army which at the start of the war was a complete underdog. The fact remains that fascism essentially does strengthen a nation in evey way, but the way in which it does this is unnacptebale on moral grounds. It is probably a short-term solution aswell.

Basically Fascism did what it took some of the most liberal and enlightened capitalist nations many years to do. But it is a road that is essentially a dangerous gamble, maybe even for life and death, for all those who wish to make a fascist socio-political system work.

WW2 was hardly the destruction of any form of a fascist government..
