Seriously, ive been wondering this for ages, so I thought id get round to making a thread about it. Do you have fish and chip shops in America? Like "chipp'ies" as they are called in the UK, we love them. I know the majority of Americans eat at large food chain resteraunts, like KFC and McDonalds, and there is alot of them. But do any of you still go to your small time local family run fish and chip shop, or do you not have that anymore?

edit: this is what im on about, all fish and chip shops are like this

They're some local and some regional chains. A lot of the smaller "mom and pop" restaraunts have closed there doors, but every city still has their share.

I'm not familiar with the term "fish and chip shop" or "chipp'ies". We eat fish just like every other nation on earth and we have independently owned seafood resturants all over the place and the occassional fish market (only in seaside towns and major cities though). I get the feeling you meant something else though, in which case please elaborate.

The closest I can think of to what you are describing would be "Long John Silver's" fast seafood place. Pretty much every seafood thing and fries and stuff. I live in south florida and there are a few of them around here but I dont know about the rest of the US.

Ive never had a taco in my life, but I would want to try one though but can you really compare the two?

Taco's and fish are definitely comparable. I guess us americans are pretty spoiled and overweight when it comes to food :P. It is kinda like deciding what your in the mood for but for me I like them equally but a lot of americans would take taco's over fish any day.
