Not being mainstream is highly overrated (although yes, I recognize all of them)
modest mouse, pearl jam, radiohead, avenged sevenfold, nine inch nails, paramore, against me!.. just off the top of my head. i simply cant narrow it down to one band because i try to appreciate every band for their own uniqueness, so comparing truely talented and original bands just doesn't feel right. i love listening to all kinds of music and am always trying to expand my library and bands i listen to.

Death from Above is kind of mainstream (at least in Canada)
Radiohead has been my favorite band for some time now. They continue to release amazing albums and I enjoy every different direction they have taken over the years. My close second would have to be Opeth.
Eluveitie! Yes, I like my doses of folk metal particularly Eluveitie. Other metal bands that come to mind (not necessarily folk) are Mezarkabul/Pentagram, Insomnium, Equilibrium, Amon Amarth, Sonata Arctica, Therion, etc. Depends on my mood really.
I could never pick a favorite band but if I had to choose one I guess I would say blink-182. However lately I've been listening to a lot of Streetlight Manifesto, Presidents of The United States of America, Incubus, Busdriver and Wu-Tang Clan...I like music a lot. :)
