Aside from the fact that I find it fitting to actually talk about the decade since we only have 2 months left, I'm very curious what people feel was some of the best to come out in the last 10 years. Now I don't feel like I'm some superior being when it comes to music I feel nothingness and by nothingness I mean I am open to anything and identifying its quality by its substance. Feel free to include a band that has released an album recently but has been around for 30 or so years because them releasing an album recently automatically makes them relevant in some light. Just a few from the top of my head and I encourage people to give any of these a listen from youtube, etc and I would of course do the same if a band sounds unfamiliar.

The Main Drag

Placebo (start from the beginning of their work)

Modest Mouse (start from the beginning of their work)

Dredg

Radiohead

Cursive

RX Bandits

Porcupine Tree

The Mars Volta

Since you said "Have been around for 30 years but recently released an album" I shall say Bon Jovi. They've had several including 'The Circle' that comes out next month :)

Tool (who will always hold a special place in my heart as what I believe the most brilliant band in the history of music), A Perfect Circle, Porcupine Tree, The Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails, a few others.

Lots of good bands have released CD's in the past 10 years. Old and new alike, I would be here all day listing the bands I think are good. I'll just add to the convo and give my top five.

1) Iron Maiden
2) Metallica
3) Megadeth
4) Slayer
5) Lamb of God

Great minds think alike! :D Sorry, but as soon as he opened it up to 30 year old bands who have released an album, all my favorites (basically my staple bands that I listened to while I was getting into the metal scene) popped right into my head. I'll never forget staying up late in my room with Metallica playing quietly so I wouldn't wake my parents up and get yelled at for playing music instead of sleeping, or when I started wearing my Iron Maiden shirts to school and people thought I was weird for having "zombies and skeletons" on my t-shirt's and hoody's. I cannot believe I used to watch MTV and think "music sucks, why would anyone listen to it." Then my friend turned me onto Metallica (good Metallica Kill em' All - Black Album), ever since, been playing music 24/7.

EDIT: Also, the guy in your sig, what movie is that? I remember being at my friends house and catching the last 20 mins or so, and it seems hilarious, I just forgot what it was called and I want to watch it haha.

My favourite bands of the decade tend to have at least had a significant portion of their releases made in the 2000s. Agalloch, Opeth, Bloodbath, Kamelot, Epica and Alcest happen to meet the list.

Nine Inch Nails durrr.

The level of productivity, quality, and the breaking from the record label to release things in a fairer way, mixed with the best live show around and a foray into the ARG makes this the correct choice.

Sonic Youth have been around for a long time but they've been releasing incredible albums in the 00s. For more recent artists, I'd say St. Vincent, The Dresden Dolls, Los Campesinos, Crystal Castles and Art Brut.
