So I'm a pretty big reader, and I'm betting lots of other people here are too. I prefer the long winding complex book series to indivdual stories, what are some of your fav book series?

I'd say right now my top is George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, so glad the show came to HBO so I could discover it and the books :)

also:
Dark Tower series, Stephen King (fantasy, would make a great series)
Ender/Shadow series, Orsan Scott Card (sci-fi, looking forward to the movie)
The Foundation series, Issac Asmiov (sci-fi, still haven't read the last 2 books)
The Ryanverse, Tom Clancy (polotical thriller)
LoTR series, JRR Tolkien (fantasy, the rare case where I liked the movies more then the books)

Reading some of King's individual books now, but after I'm intend on getting into the Timeworld series, heard some good things about it.

I don't get into too many series as I have a short attention span for that sort of thing (I am often balancing at least one book with 3-4 games and probably a TV series/anime for good measure) but I love the Lord of the Rings, and I liked Redwall when I was a kid.

Usually I hear people complain about the first one but then say it gets really good after that. Personally, I loved it from start to finish. :P

All the series I have read were pretty much as a kid... I need to read more.

But I would say probably Harry Potter or the MythAdventures by Robert Asprin.

I thought they were, but I could definitely see how you could lose interest after Ender's Game.

I like a few book series. Recently my favourite book series in the past few years has been the excellent Logan McRae series by Stuart MacBride, a local Scottish writer who lives in the region of Scotland I live in. His books are amazing. The series is a murder mystery series set in the local city of Aberdeen, which for me is about fifty miles away, and is focused mostly around a man called Logan McRae, a police officer, who is a pretty miserable person who is trying his best to do his job and solving some really brutal murders while dealing with co-works who range from annoying, rude, stupid or just outright pains in the backside. The stories are gripping, the detail is always very rich and the stories can be really gruesome - like someone getting their eyes burned out while still very much alive. Excellent stories, highly recommended. Each story in the series links together, starting from Cold Granite. Looking forward to the next book in the series, the previous book in the series was a very cruel ending for poor Logan.

I am currently enjoying "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Other series that I've read and enjoyed:

1) "The Millennium Trilogy" by Steig Larsson.

2) "His Dark Materials" Trilogy by Phillip Pullman.

3) "Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling.

4) "The Twelve Kingdoms" by Fuyumi Ono.

5) "Monster" by Naoki Urasawa.

That's my top 5. Yes, I've also enjoyed Tolkien, Lewis, "Animorphs," and "The Babysitters Club." Also, I've read half of the books in the "Left Behind" series, so can someone let me know if the last 6 are worth the read. Thanks!

The Witcher Saga,Andrzej Sapkowski

A Song of Ice and Fire, George RR Martin

Christine, Stephen King(not a series, but it's my favorite Book from him)

I've also just recently started reading the Harry Potter books to see what all of the fuzz is about them, and thus far, they're pretty awesome.

These are my current favorite series

  • Warriors
  • Percy Jackson & The Olympians/Heroes of Olympus
  • Inheritance Cycle
  • The Hunger Games Trilogy
  • Left Behind Series
  • The Dragon Riders of Pern

Plus I'm still buying books and new series so this list is bound to change. I also just recently The Last Days by Joel C Roseberg which I guess is part of a Political Thriller series I haven't read it yet but will do that soon.

and I got alot of books that don't belong to a particular series that are my favorites too

  • Stephen king's Under the Dome
  • Stephen King's Firestarter
  • Horse How the Horse has Shaped Civilization
  • Halo The Fall of Reach
  • Nephilim Stargates
  • Robopocalypse

Also bound to change and I pretty much read about anything or try to. I also want to get some books based on The History of Rome and such.

1) Dune. I've only read the main series, and I can't recommend it more highly. At the very least, I suggest reading Dune and Dune Messiah are worth reading. However, like the Dark Tower, there are weak entries in the series. The weakest entries in this series happen to be books 3 and 4: Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune, respectively.

2) Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy. This trilogy is the best Star Wars Expanded Universe work around. If you're a fan of the original trilogy, you'll love these books.

3) Dragonlance Legends trilogy. It's fairly standard fantasy, but the characters, especially Raistlin's journey, make it a compelling read.

I liked the Ender's series by Orson Scott Card, A song of Ice and Fire (books 1 + 2, didn't like 3 too much and I still have to read the remaining books), and Dune. Dune is probably my favorite. Plowed through that series in a month.

I've only really read three "series", and they're Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire and The Dark Tower.

Harry Potter was a solid series through and through. I read the first four books back in high school, and then I sort of stopped because I was in that stupid phase where I regarded the series as too "childish" for me. Saw the series at Costco during last Christmas so I grabbed it and started with Sorcerer's Stone and finished up with Deathly Hallows. An excellent series overall and amazingly consistent.

A Song of Ice and Fire started off amazingly. The first three books in my opinion are amazing. Then Feast came out and it was a total dud. I chalked it up to a fluke and after waiting for like five years for A Dance With Dragons to release, I bought it and was the most disappointed I've ever been by a book. I'll be waiting to read reviews on the sixth book (assuming it releases within the next five years) before I buy it because it seems like GRRM simply lost his way with what was once a series with such potential.

The Dark Tower...Same story as A Song of Ice and Fire. Great first four books. Not amazing, but thoroughtly entertaining in their own right. Book five, Wolves of the Calla, was where it went downhill, it was basically just a copy of "Seven Samurai". The sixth book is a total blur because so much stupid **** happened. I honestly don't even remember what happened in that mess. Pretty much dropped the series there, never got around to the last book.
