Which one, and why?
MtG for life. 8)

Legend of the Five Rings. It was much more advanced than MtG, had a compelling mythology behind it, and it was the only CCG at the time that had a continuing storyline determined by tournament play.
Only card game i got into was Pokemon back in the day.
I have been sorrounded by people for 5 years who love Magic the Gathering and the fandom towards it gets to scary levels for a few of them. Never got into it though, but i appreciate the art drawn on them.
That's the problem with it -- the last series becomes outdated once the new one comes out, so the amount of money you spend on it is... quite a bit. MtG, cards from years and years ago can be used and compete just fine (assuming you're not in a tournament setting, using the more recent series). My friends and I just recently got back into Yu-Gi-Oh!. We had't played since before GX came out, so we need to update our decks now to play with some of the new additions.

Pokemon for me, although I never got a chance to play a real game, I just collected the cards.judog1
same here :P
Hah, I wonder how my experience in this area stacks up with other users here. Lets just say I have been quite the TCG fiend in my time.
Anyways, my choice might sound like an oddball to some, but my all-time fav TCG is actually the original Dragonball Z TCG.
I actually played through ALMOST the entirety of that TCG (joined in during the 3rd set and stayed till like the last set or the set before the last). That image right there is the Lv.1 personality and the mastery from the deck I finished the series with.
It was actually an extremely well balanced game with many different ways to play. I loved that deck of mine. I essentially abused that mastery right there to get an open round against the opponent and just lay into them with a billion attacks as I could keep getting cards into my hand with that mastery.
The other TCG that came close to topping the DBZ TCG for me would actually be the WoW TCG. Not sure how many people were aware that the gaming addiction of the century had spawned a card game, but it did and it was also fantastic back when I played it.
It was another card game that was well-balanced (granted decks came in fads) and had a billion different ways to play. I played every kind of deck from a solo rogue deck mean to get and buff equipment to take you down quick, to a frost mage deck meant to stall you out till it could lay these bomb allies that just took control of the board.
Also, the WoW TCG gets MAJOR brownie points for actually making a Leeroy Jenins card and believe it or not it is not only useful but actually involves making you yell out LEEROY JENKINS when playing it!!!
But yeah, gotta love TCG's!!!
