I am currently writing a comedy, so I am interested in what people here think are the best comedies. I notice that a lot of my threads recently have not been that imaginative, but like I have said before I am putting my imagination in other places so I am just playing it safe for now:P

1. A Serious Man

A dark comedy masterpiece. Probably the Coen Brothers' best film.

2. In the loop

3. Amelie

4. Keeping mum

5. Life during wartime

This is the very definition of dark comedy.

6. Royal Tenenbaums

7. Shaun of the dead

8. Kiss kiss bang bang

9. High Fidelity

10. Best in show

11. Adam's apples

12. Igby goes down

13. American psycho

14. In Bruges

15. Election

It would be good to get an idea of what people like comedy wise recently. I won't make it change how I write, but I might mix in some influences from some of your choices:)

In no particular order.

  • The Big Lebowski (close enough to a decade)
  • Super Bad
  • The Hangover
  • Thank You for Smoking
  • The 40 Year Old Virgin
  • Observe And Report
  • Kung Fu Panda (yes, Kung Fu Panda)
  • Pineapple Express
  • Step Brothers

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I actually liked Kung fu panda too. It was quite a surprise because I thought it looked stupid. Observe and report is an interesting one. I think it was pretty good, but I dont think people expected it to be so dark. I thought seth rogan was good in it even though his character was rather flawed.

I completely agree, except for the fact that I liked his character because he was flawed.

My favorite scene was when he was going through his psychiatric evaluation. lol

To be honest I don't think any of the films were "hilarious" but Ill try to think of some that made me laugh.

The 40 yr old virgin

Clerks

Coming to America

Joe Dirt

Bruce Almighty

Harold and Kumar

Super Troopers

BeerFest

Mallrats

Dogma

Bad Santa

Dunno if they are all from the decade though, but they made me laugh. Idk I like black comedies too but I don't picture myself ROFL when seeing those.

I think his flaws made him a better character. He reminded me of Travis from taxi driver, and Robert pubkin from King of comedy.

The only two I've seen from your list are Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and In The Loop. I loved both of them. Especially Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I watched it around 5 times in one month because I kept showing it to my friends.

I thought High Fidelity was older somehow. Either way, awesome movie. My list would also include Shaun of the Dead, and (to a lesser extent) Hot Fuzz. Hot Fuzz is worth it just to see Dalton in action. The Daltonator, indeed. Nothing else is coming to mind. I'd dig through my DVDs to see how many are there that I would list, but I'm too lazy.

I haven't seen a good comedy in a while. In no particular order In Bruges: I absolutely love Farrel's, Gleeson's, and Fiennes' performances in this movie. Shaun of the Dead American Psycho: "I like to dissect girls. Did you know I'm utterly insane?" Burn After Reading: I'm not really into the Coen's super dry humor, but I have to admit that this is a quality film. The Wicker Man: NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

In Bruges

(500) Days of Summer

The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

Burn After Reading

In The Loop

A Serious Man

Amelie

Hot Fuzz

I could probably add more, but I'm not really sure if they're considered comedies or not...

In Bruges to me is the funniest film of the decade. Anchorman is pretty good too. Will Ferrell's best film.

I think I've got to go with Shaun of the Dead as my favorite. I never get tired of that movie. Zombieland, Hot Fuzz, Adventureland, and Tropic Thunder were all great aswell. These are all fairly recent though....the older ones just aren't coming to mind. :P

Those were all really funny, however, I still find I like to rewatch Superbad the most.
